That's Rukongai! He doesn't smile much. I take it you haven't met him, you'd remember if you did.

I'm Squall! Mind if I ask your name?

Oh, I see. Well, they're very cute thoughts!

No, I haven't met anyone with that name. I'm still relatively new to this place, you see. Although, one day I hope your friend will smile more often.

I'm Fayth. It's a pleasure to meet you, Squall.

You too! Fayth's an interesting name. So you hatched not too long ago?

Is it? King said that too, though I think King's name is more interesting than mine. And yes, I did, just a few days ago.

Who are the others in your drawing? If I meet them, I'll definitely remember your doodles.

King's definitely an interesting name. I guess we all have interesting names around here when you think about it.

00 and Haro are on the right on the bottom. The     other ones don't mean anything.

I suppose you're right. I don't recall knowing anyone with names like the ones here. Then again, I suppose I don't recall much anyway.

Don't mean anything? Even the tiny little creature waving to 'Squall'?

I don't either, but when I think of names things like Alice and John come more to mind than, well... I [pause] I think this is my name though.

Oh! That's the octopus in the lake. I thought I'd draw it since I'm here, but it went back under a while ago.

It's wonderful that you can be sure that name is yours. I'm afraid I don't have the same security in mine. But it's nice and it's something, you know?

Ah! So an octopus is a friendly creature that lives in the lake!

Having something you can call your own around here is important. If Squall is my name or Fayth yours, here or in the life we lived before, they're both important! So I want to hold onto things like that.

Right! At least... I t h i n k it's friendly.

[Fayth ponders the Squall's words and re-writes them in her own hand]

Your words are encouraging. I want to remember them. I want to hold onto what I can call my own too. It's all we have, after all.

[Squall's just sitting by the lake. She has her boots off and her feet in the water, idly kicking up ripples. There's a few sandwiches on a paper bag next to her, but for the most part she's just enjoying the nice day. Out on a rock in the lake a lone tentacle from a certain octopus reaches up from the water to languidly sun itself. It's that kind of day.]
