Living the life of a bum is beautiful. Maybe it won't be such a bad thing to be an unemployed graduate student in two years.
Today I drove out to Eastman Sibley Library with Rick. I picked up my papers, and we drove to the River Campus where I had my picture done. I had spent such a long time on my hair, only to get probably the worst looking photo ID I've ever had. Go figure. I've put on weight, and this picture makes me look huge! But I went back to the library and was able to take out books, so I am very happy. I found a doctoral dissertation written about Hindemith and his theory of composition. I'm very interested in it and assume I will have it mostly read and notes taken on it in a couple of days. I have a photo journal of his life, and I have a biography. I figure those are the best places to start on my project. I'm becoming more and more excited about the project, and in general, about the future. I love research which must sound sick to most people, and maybe there is something wrong with me, I don't know. I loved sitting in the library today for two hours reading and taking notes, learning all about someone I admire. After I type this up I am going to go sit on my bed in my CLEAN room and read and take more notes.
Afterwards, we went back to Rick's house. I think I saw nearly three accidents today. I wish people would drive patiently. Not necessarily slowly. But when you're in rush hour traffic, there's really no need to be a jerk.
I was so hungry, and so was Rick. We decided to go out and get some sauce for the pasta we were going to make. We ended up going to Tops, more or less on accident. Guess who I saw there, who actually rang us up in line? Stefanie Simmons!!!!! I wasn't paying attention, I was actually studying the candy rack in line, and we were about to leave when I heard her voice. I looked up, I'm like "What's your last name?" and we recognized each other right away. Oh but wait, it gets even crazier. I asked her what she was up to now, she said she's going to school in Brockport, and still living at the house she's always lived at. She said "but I'll be moving in the fall, I'm going up to Potsdam for school" I was like OMG!!!!! THIS IS INSANE!!!! This was my best friend from almost the day I was born, and I haven't seen her in years, and now she's going to the same school I'm going to! We ran out of time to talk, I felt terrible because I was holding up her job, but I am going to call her. She said she's at the same place she lived at when we were young. How CRAZY is that???? Talk about one of those fate things, I still can't believe that happened!!! I hope we can hang out when she goes to Potsdam. I really have no idea what she's like or how similar or different we've become. But that is insane ... insane ...
Rick and I watched "Catch Me If You Can" tonight. It was a clever movie, and I was shocked to find out it was based on a true story. Good movie, you should see it.
I am off to learn about Paul Hindemith!!! Have a lovely night :)
Quote of reflection on todays events worth debateand consideration (as were all thoughts) by Einstein :
"Everything is determined, the beginning as well as the end, by forces over which we have no control. It is determined for insects as well as for the stars. Human beings, vegetables, or cosmic dust, we all dance to a mysterious tune, intoned in the distance by an invisible piper."
