My new house is apparently a happy place for a wide variety of many friendly birds. In the last week, I've spotted a red-bellied woodpecker, a cardinal (currently missing the plumage on its head), a mockingbird, a waxwing, and a few chickadees, in addition to examples of robins, mourning doves, and sparrows which I'm already used to seeing at my apartment. I know none of them are particularly unusual, but it's new to me to see so many different kinds of birds in the same place.
In related happy news, I was able to extract the broken branch that had been stuck hanging in the beech in my front lawn without breaking off any branches in the beech. My parents often seem exasperated that I seem to care more about the trees and birds than I do about the house or garden plots. For my part, I am surprised that they find that surprising.
