Once a baby squirrel got into the house in the middle of the night... the cats were harassing it, but no harm had been done. I got it locked into one of the bathrooms, however when I went to check in the morning it had drowned in the toilet. :O
A couple of times chipmunks have gotten into the house, I usually throw a towel over them then sweep them into a basket or hamper and take them outside.
Jane caught a second one (another baby), and I just took it outside. The first one is still where I left it, breathing heavily, laying kind of upside down. I'm pretty sure its back is broken.
I really want to kill it and end its suffering, but I don't know what to do. What if I try and fail, and just make it worse?
At least I've secured the cabinet door in the kitchen, where they've been coming from. They get into the cabinet with the garbage and compost bucket, and they pretty much stay in there. Until a cat drags them out and encourages them to run around the house.
You can reattach someone's severed arm in your kitchen with a dirty dishrag and some tape while the cats lap up the blood but you get squeamish about a dying mouse? =<^_^>=

And then I was trying to save a life, not end one.
