it's SNOWING!!!!!!!
right here in warm, "banana belt" Milwaukie, Oregon (snuggled next to Portland), we're having an actual snowy winters' day. Sooooo beautiful!
usually it's so warm in our valley that we get mostly rain. or a brief bit of snowflakes that immediately melt because the snow turns to rain. But this morning, around 5am, it began falling. Slowly, steadily, and it is building up. We have about two inches on our back deck railing, which probably means we've had 3 or more inches fall.
and, happily, it was arctic-air-cold here for the two preceeding days, so the ground was cold enough that, instead of it's usual tendency of melting the snow the second it hits our warm earth, it was icy cold and welcomed the snow to stay and be lovely.
I keep thinking of the local children who may have not ever seen such a good snow falling around their homes (we have glacier-topped mountain just 90 minutes away, so most kids have played in snow _there_, but here 'tis. Surrounding our cars, homes, trees. The cat can't figure it out!
