This will be how to put photos in your LJ: such as a photo of Valerie drunk last weekend or the day at the circus with Mr. B.
First! You need to have a website that will "host" your photos. I like Photobucket because not only does it GIVE YOU the tag, but also the URL where the photo is located and the HTML tag. Nice. Easy too.
So, sign up at www.photobucket.com. Upload your photos the same way as you upload icons (see ICONS entry).
There are many ways to upload a photo to your LJ. I'll start with the easiest.
When updating your LJ and you are in "rich text format"... This is the one that you can click on a different color for your text or use bold/italic/underline. Anyways, click on the little icon that lets you insert a photo. It will come up with a text box that asks for the photo's URL. You obtain the URL from photobucket.. A simple cut and paste. When you click on "okay" ta da, your picture is there! You may continue to editing your journal as you wish.
Another way to add pictures. This is more if you are a bit advanced. From the update screen. NOT the rich-text-formatting... just the plain one. This is an HTML screen. To stick the photo in, you will need the HTML TAG. Again, cut and paste. Ta da. You will not see the photo, but just the tag you put in. After you update, you will be able to see it.
If you decide to put like more than 3 pictures in your LJ, please use an LJ-cut. This is very simple. An LJ-cut is something that looks like a link, but when you click on it, it takes you to the main page that the user has put all 30 of their photos on. You see this a lot on icon communities.
To make an LJ-cut. On the rich text editor, you just click on the icon at the top that says "lj-cut". Put in the text box anything you want like "click here" or "weeeeeeeeeeeeeee". You will notice that there will be a tag in your journal that says *<*lj-cut text=weeeeeee*>* This is the beginning of the cut. At the end you should have (or may have to write it in) that says *<*/lj-cut*>*
Of course, please take out the stars! To end a tag you need a forward slash "/". Anything that is between the opening lj-cut and the closing lj-cut will be hidden from the user. They must click on the link that says "weeeeeeeeeeee" to see the rest of your journal.
This is useful because you are not taking up 4 pages of room on someone's Friends Page. Also if someone is using dial-up it doesn't take 3 years to load.
