While many ideas already sketch a rough outline for things to come, John's future in this AU is still mostly foggy. So I'm right there with you, wondering about what he might do. Also, I'm so glad that Castiel's role left you with doubts about his intentions. This is one of the many things I loved about the earlier seasons on show, everyone had their own hidden agenda. I aimed for the same kind of uncertainty in this story and I'm delighted that it seemed to work for you. Also, yay for healing moments!
