Wow, your work is even more impressive now that I know you're still new to digital art! Although you can rest assured, it might feel like a work in progress to you, but it certainly doesn't look like it :). Erm, to be perfectly honest though, I'm no expert at it myself so maybe I'm not the best to judge yet. I still love your art, though, and that's what counts, right?

You've seen me nowhere else because this is the first thing I've ever done. Well, the third if you count the other SPN Gen Big Bang story and, I'm ashamed to say, the banner on my journal. That was the first thing, actually, and it very much looks like it, too ;). But I still like it because of the humor. Of course - rookie mistake - I fused all the layers into one picture in the end, without saving the single-layered file. So I can't go back and fix all the things that irk me now. I'm very glad I made that mistake on something rather unimportant, though. I don't even want to think about doing any of the story illustrations all over again because of a stupid mistake like that.

Oh, how I wish I had some traditional background ;). I'm quite flattered that you assumed so. But, no, I've just picked up pencil and some paper and started doodling around. That's why it took me ages to finish the art, too. I'm sure there are more effective ways to go about things.

And please, don't worry. I haven't been active in fandom for long and, true, the one thing I've written and both the art entries are gen. But I've been lurking for a few months before I started writing and I've read a wide variety of fandom's work. So yay for gen, yay for slash, and yay for kink on your journal :). I'll definitely have a closer look at it someday soon, but right now an insanely busy weekend lies ahead - the Reversebang deadline is much too close already. Are you participating there, too?

Most of my art experience in real life is realism with graphite and charcoal, so that's why digital drawing irks me - I haven't gotten there yet! Right now, I'm just trying different drawing & coloring techniques that I find around the web. One problem is that I'm not a patient person, so I have a hard time sitting down and mapping out each detail and working so many layers.

I'm so worried about losing anything I've done that I tend to save several versions along the way, like leaving a bread trail so I can find my way back if needed :P Glad you made that mistake early, and hopefully it never happens again!

Regarding Big Bangs, I just realized how fast these deadlines pass. I think I overextended myself this past month and a half. I've completed about 10 pieces with an 11th in progress, but I only feel satisfied with a handful of them. Three of those were for the Reverse Bang. I had to hurry and finish two of them *d'oh* because I don't have this weekend to work on them (going on a mini trip with family). Have fun with yours! I can't wait to see what you come up with :D

Ha, I think being patient is the only thing I've had working for me from the get go. But when the files turn into little monsters of several hundred layers, I can almost feel my left eye twitching while I'm praying for the program not to crash ;). Now I'm definitely saving files like crazy, too. Lesson learned.

When I was fourteen or so (my god, I feel old now), I actually made my own charcoal "pencils" by slowly burning down these thin wooden sticks you use to spear food on (no idea what they're called in English) - without the food, of course :). That was a lot of fun. Huh. I should totally try that again. When I'm not so busy. Maybe next year. Do you share pictures of your non digital art on your journal, too?

Did you honestly finish eleven art pieces in the last few weeks? That's a lot of art, hun! No wonder you probably had to prioritize and thus couldn't spend equal amounts of attention to all of them. But at least with the Reversebang pieces there's the opportunity to keep working on them - I bet they're already gorgeous, though! Can't wait to see yours, either :).

I sent the early bird in but I'm not sure I'll be able to finish the others in time :(. I'm such a stupid perfectionist, I'd feel totally embarrassed if I were to send in the mess that they resemble right now. (Have you noticed how many of the big shots have signed up for it, by he way? Literally every one whose art I ever adored is playing. As if I needed more reasons to worry about inadequacy.) No one in their right mind would ever claim them like this, either; that's for sure. *sigh* So, enough with the complaining and back to the art it is! Not much time left now, not much at all.

Fourteen - gah! I was born mid-80s too, and I can't believe how many people I meet now who are younger than me. I was spoiled by being the youngest in my classes.

And making your own charcoal sticks? That is really cool and sounds like it requires patience which, we've established, you have and I don't ;)

I haven't yet shared any of my non-digital art, but I'm gonna dig around and see if I have any scans. I don't spend a lot of my free time doodling to be honest. My best pieces were completed in college when I had assignments that would be graded! I did just buy a bunch of paper pads and color pencils though. Hopefully, I'll be inspired to practice more.

Eleven didn't sound like a lot when I first planned it, but I didn't realize how much real life would interfere. Also, some ideas came easy; others had to be forced out and were harder to execute than I thought.

I totally get the perfectionist streak. It's both a blessing and a curse, right? I haven't looked at the sign-up list, and now I don't want to! I'm just thinking of this as a way to satisfy some of my story cravings. Screw feelings of inadequacy ;)

Oh yes, please have a look for those scans. I'd love love love to see them!

Yeah, I'm not spending much of my free time doodling, either. First I just stopped doing art as a whole, like, nine or ten years ago (when RL became such a demanding thing) and now that I'm trying my hand at it again, I hardly have any (free time, that is). I'm kinda working on art for all these challenges from the moment I am done with RL until I fall asleep. Everyday. Huh. I swear, I used to have more of a social life before this whole fandom thing.

I so envy you. Sometimes I'm like that too, all screw feelings of inadequacy, but mostly I'm, erm, not. But, oh well. I hope that'll get easier when there's a little more routine and a little less trial-and-error to what I'm doing ;).
