I was listening to this song *points above* and it got me thinking. When imprinting is equated to a disease, something genetic in werewolves, could there be a cure? Meyer describes it as an all incumbising love that can basically be any kind of love. This includes brotherly/sisterly/fatherly/motherly/intimate/pet types of love. This, however is not seen in the book. Instead everyone falls madly and unexplainably in love with their imprintees. This brings up the question of the Imprintee being the one with the power in the relationship. They decide what the relationship is going to be like. If this is so than could the Imprintee be the cure to imprinting on a romantic level?

Examples of this would lie in Emily/Leah/Sam. Emily at first was mad at Sam, but later accepted the fact that he for some reason was madly in love with her. This wrecked the relationship between Sam and Leah. If Emily had said 'I only want to be your friend' would it have changed anything? And if she did say it, would she have to mean it in order for the change in the relationship to occur? Is it Emily's fault, as the Imprintee, that Leah and Sam's life was wrecked?

I feel like in some ways it is Emily's fault. Meyer paints her as the martyr in this tangled web, but is she really? I feel like Emily didn't fight against the imprinting. I don't think she meant to, but I feel like she kind of through all rules to the wind and said 'to hell with it, I love him' but does she really? And then there is Sam, who's portrayal kind of shifts in the Fourth Book, but that's a discussion for another day. Where is he in all of this? There's Leah and then there's Emily. I question his love for Emily. We she it in his eyes, but he never shows it. Why does he love Emily? Why?

I bring up this discussion because I wonder where this leaves the other members of the Pack. Jared and Kim are cool, but what about Quil and Claire or Jacob and Nessie? Most importantly Jacob and Nessie and in the long run the relationship with Bella. Has Meyer really taken away choice for Jacob and consquently any one who is interested in him or Nessie?
