There was no stumbling or staggering on Ivan's entry into the hospital wing, but the absence of apparent physical limitation was replaced with a somewhat dazed and very confused expression. "Ludwig, I... certainly hope you'll be able to help me..." Of all people, the healer would be the best bet, after all.

"What's the matter, Ivan?" he asked, getting up to meet the Russian halfway. He was updating some of the medical files...and reviewing them in preparation for patients. He hadn't thought to look into the staff files much, though.

"Um... I... well..." Explaining it vocally was turning out to be a rather strange endeavour. "It seems... my heart fell out. I put it back, but..." But that wasn't a natural thing to have happen, nor was it a natural reaction.

Ludwig's eyes snapped wide open. "What did you just say?" he asked, reaching for his wand, itching to cast about a hundred different diagnostics. How could that even happen? Why would that happen? How was Ivan still alive?

"I... said my heart fell out. And I put it back." Repeating it didn't help it to sound any less strange, he found after speaking, though he did find that he was becoming more used to saying it. Somehow that was worrisome.

If Ludwig were to simply ask to see, then he'd be... treated... to the sight of the presence of the thinnest layer of skin stretched over Ivan's chest cavity - which itself did nothing past mildly obscuring view into the Russian's chest cavity. Ribs and muscles were either absent or contorted strangely, and the 'view' afforded showed his heart clearly. Why it was able to simply fall out would become apparent, but none of the other questions would get their answers, unfortunately.

And Ivan didn't even know any of this.

"I - pardon, but could you take off your shirt please, Ivan? I think, under the circumstances...the more data the better." Ludwig wasn't sure he could fix what Ivan was going through, but...he sure as hell wanted to try, because this sounded dangerous and terrifying.

"Ah...? I... suppose?" There was some hesitation, but after a few moments, he decided that any questions about old scars could be deferred to their next conversation in Russian - a significantly more difficult topic to talk about than schooling or the like, in terms of vocabulary, to say nothing of the difficulty of breaching the topic itself.

Though it would appear as though he wouldn't have to worry too much about that at all, as even that slight movement (exabarated by the removal of the layers before the last shirt, likely) caused the organ to expel itself from his chest once more.

[ooc: have NO idea how it falls out through layers in-canon, so I'm not pretending to make the most sense here either. Sorry. XD]

Ludwig caught it reflexively and immediately regretted it. It wouldn't have been any better to let it fall to the floor, of course, but - Holy Mother of God, he was holding a still-beating human heart in his hands as the still-living owner watched him.

There was no good response to this. He handed it back to Ivan awkwardly.

"...Thank... you?" What WAS the proper response when someone... handed... your heart back to you? Ivan supposed he should put it back... again... but then there was the question of whether or not it would even stay, with nothing to hold it there.

But the other option was to continue to stand there awkwardly, heart-in-hand.

So he put it back. And kept his hand over the hole, just in case. "So... uhm... is there anything you can do...?"

"It can...pass through cloth?" he asked, tilting his head. "But is still tangible," he slipped into French, continuing for a few more sentences in medical terminology he was still developing a vocabulary for in English (and German, and much more slowly, Russian).

"Let's try something," he said in Russian (it just seemed more natural to speak to Ivan in Russian). "A few different solid objects. I want to see if your...heart...can pass through those. If it's just for some reason your body is...not solid or - I'm not sure, but perhaps we can devise a covering that will keep it in until I reach a better solution or this...might clear up naturally. If there's one thing I've learned after twenty one years...magic is very, very unpredictable."

"It would appear so..." Ivan stood and listened and let the medical mutterings whisk over his head.

The sudden Russian jarred him back to reality, and his eyebrows raised so high they disappeared under his bangs. "You want to... what?" He didn't really seem that keen on the idea of testing to see if his heart would or would not phase through objects as it had his clothing, and really was not quite as amused as he should have been with the notion of possibly having a book strapped to his chest for the remainder of... whatever was going on. But they didn't really have that much of a choice, as something did need to be done. "...Okay... yes. I... suppose?"

"Eh...it's just an idea. I am sorry if it causes you any discomfort...but perhaps it would be best to keep your heart inside your ribcage as much as possible, no?" The fact that it wasn't having any visible adverse affect on Ivan to exist separately from his heart was alarming and fascinating. Ludwig had a list of solid objects in mind already for testing.

"I... believe that would be best, yes." It was strange, and didn't cause any adverse effects, but... Well, he certainly did not want to test what would happen should this curse or hex or whatever was going on end with his heart outside of his body.

So he would resign himself to being a ginuea pig for the time being, until they found a way to keep the organ in him.

(considering how desperately far after event this is, do you wanna just say they found out solid wood works okay and strapped a bit of it over his heart for a while?)
