Fandom: Godchild / The Cain Saga / Count Cain
Pairing: Cassian x Jizabel Disraeli
Theme set: Epsilon
Rating: T
Warning[s]: SPOILERS. Slash, death, vague gore, implied mature situations.
Notes: Seriously, about the spoilers. If you are planning on finishing The Cain Saga and have yet to do so, do not read these. I write a lot of fanfiction for these two so only doing one sentence was so hard. Long live the JizabelxCassian Invasion
#01 - Motion
A flick of the wrist was all it took to make the most selfless gesture of all.
#02 - Cool
Those amethyst eyes must have been made of glass; real eyes could never stare so coolly forwards as he knelt at the familiar chair.
#03 - Young
It was a word that stung but rang true and Jizabel realised for the first time that appearance meant nothing at all.
#04 - Last
Soon after discovering it was in fact the first time he had ever fallen in love, Cassian came to realise that, after this, he would never love again.
#05 - Wrong
As fingertips traced his scars with unexpected tenderness and soft lips parted against his own, Cassian wondered why the world thought of this as hideous, unnatural and wrong.
#06 - Gentle
The child dreamed of the birds nestling in the dovecote so that he wouldn’t have to see the blood staining the man’s skin.
#07 - One
One minute late to the Tower of Babel and the world came crashing down.
#08 - Thousand
By the thousandth night, he stopped feeling the pain.
#09 - King
And the oldest prince served his father, bled, killed, sinned and died all in the name of a kingdom that would never be his own.
#10 - Learn
He was like a child in every way but one; Jizabel would never learn from his mistakes.
#11 - Blur
An explosion, shouting, a gunshot, a sickening crack, too few words spoken too slowly, the heavy warmth of blood on his arms and hands - and the moment that lasted forever.
#12 - Wait
He had been too cautious, waited too long; now, he would wait forever.
#13 - Change
The hate blurred into respect so subtly that Cassian had barely realised he didn’t hate the doctor by the time respect had started shifting smoothly into devotion.
#14 - Command
Stay - it was enough to stop him from breathing.
#15 - Hold
The steady hand around his throat would always make more sense than the hand that was tightening around his heart.
#16 - Need
Everything he had ever needed was pouring through the cracks in a steady, crimson stream.
#17 - Vision
On the day Cassian stumbled across Jizabel tending to his doves, he knew he was seeing something that none of the priests in the city, with all their talk of visions and miracles, could ever imagine.
#18 - Attention
Once he had finally forced Jizabel to look at him for once, really look at him, the words died on his lips.
#19 - Soul
No matter how often the priest promised him heaven, the wandering vagrant with the scar on one hand, Cassian wanted nothing more than to join the man that had been his everything, no matter which circle of Hell he had been banished to.
#20 - Picture
One badly printed picture in the newspaper was the sole testament to the end of Cassian’s world.
#21 - Fool
On cold nights, empty bottles strewn around his feet, Cassian would smile and whisper to the flames that ‘Death’ had been the wrong card entirely for Jizabel.
#22 - Mad
Sanity never came more easily than when he could sit in his study and gaze upon the preserved organs in their neat, labelled jars.
#23 - Child
His skin had been too tight for years but he had never felt it as keenly as this.
#24 - Now
This is the moment when you close your eyes and focus on all that is - the pain, the fear, the tears running lines through the grime on your cheeks - so that you don’t have to face everything that was or, worse, what could have been.
#25 - Shadow
Cassian would never say anything; it’s not a shadow’s place to love.
#26 - Goodbye
The animals around the grave were the only ones to hear those heartfelt final words and the syllables died on Cassian’s lips as he realised it was all too late.
#27 - Hide
Jizabel took the easy option; hiding from the truth was far easier than hiding from Cassandra and his cold touches.
#28 - Fortune
Years later, holding a lifeless body in his arms, Cassian realised why the fortune teller from the circus had traced the lines on his palm while shedding silent tears.
#29 - Safe
And at last, here was his sanctuary.
#30 - Ghost
There were whispers at night, words in Cassian’s ears that were probably echoing out from inside his own desperate mind but which helped to fuel the agonising hope of something else.
#31 - Book
If he wrote it all down, no one would ever believe him...but that was okay.
#32 - Eye
One night amidst the chaos was all that was needed and they slept peacefully in the eye of the storm.
#33 - Never
And just like that, ‘never’ stopped being a word from a fairytale and started etching itself into Cassian’s heart.
#34 - Sing
Watching from a corner unobserved, the Fool wished that Death and his shadow would learn to sing for him and add the finishing touch to his opera with a beautiful, fragile duet.
#35 - Sudden
It had taken Jizabel less time to walk from one end of Delilah’s headquarters to the other than it did for everything to descend into chaos and for his father’s kingdom to come crashing down around him.
#36 - Stop
An earthquake wouldn’t have been enough to stop Jizabel from playing the role he had assigned for himself but something as small as a kiss was enough to stop everything but his heartbeat.
#37 - Time
If he had woken Cain up earlier...if they had taken a different route...if he had just had enough time to climb the stairs...if if if.
#38 - Wash
Long after the blood had been scrubbed off and drained with the bathwater, Jizabel’s hands remained stained crimson.
#39 - Torn
There was something missing, something that he was only able to name after meeting Cassian under the vaulted arches of Waterloo Station.
#40 - History
Delilah, house of tradition, infamy and pride...Jizabel silently wished to bury that house in dust forever so future generations would not be tainted by its malignity.
#41 - Power
Watching from the outside of the room, Cassian wondered how Alexis could sleep at night knowing he held his son’s hand in an iron fist.
#42 - Bother
Another night spent trawling the streets of London, following a trail of corpses until he found the doctor where he would be greeted with nothing but irritation...why was Cassian here night after night?
#43 - God
They had abandoned the divine so many times over that this final act of blasphemy didn’t register and all they knew was love.
#44 - Wall
Delilah’s walls weren’t thick enough to block out the sounds of agony, even when Cassian pressed his hands against his ears so hard his skull began to ache.
#45 - Naked
Most people would have seen the scars; all Cassian could see was the loneliness.
#46 - Drive
Watching the earl and his butler travelling in comfort, Cassian shoved his hands deeper in his pockets and wondered whether Jizabel felt as bitter as he did.
#47 - Harm
“Deliver us from evil,” he intoned, blood seeping slowly through his Sunday best.
#48 - Precious
The rare ‘thank you’ murmured sleepily in his direction made the usual perpetual flow of insults and patronisation worth bearing.
#49 - Hunger
With every careless brush of fingertips over documents, Cassian felt a craving building in the back of his mind that made no sense at all.
#50 - Believe
Maybe, just maybe, there was a way to their happy ending despite these marble angels who told Cassian with stern eyes that there was nothing to believe in any longer and there never would be again.
