When I was a little girl, my mother had a very small garden. I knew she loved flowers, but there just wasn't much space for what she wanted. So, she planted her favorites, but the only one that would ever grow was the tulip.
I loved these flowers. They were all different colors, shapes, and sizes, and although they attracted bumble bees, I liked being near them. Sometimes, my brother Nick and I would pick one for mom. She'd tell us not to pick anymore, but she'd still laugh and hug us, like any mother would.
I thought about that today, and I came up with a list of my favorite flowers:
Tulips, of course, because they remind me of spring, and of my mother.
Lilies, because they're beautiful, graceful, and sophisticated.
Daffodils, because they make me smile.
Dogwood blooms, because they remind me of home.
Lily of the Valley, because I think they're beautiful, delicate, and amazing.
Today, my mother has a huge garden in Tennessee. She grows numerous flowers, including Lilies, Tulips, and Morning Glories, and she also grows string beans, cucumbers, pumpkins, peppers, and tomatoes. I'm glad she finally got the garden of her dreams.
