The Lost Boy
By David Pelzer

David Pelzer's back! With a new life and a world full of possibilities. David grew up in a home with an alcoholic, abusive and unloving mother, a father who refused to deal with his own sons' mistreatment, and brothers who saw David as the household maid. David never had any real friends either, kids wouldn't talk to him because he was smelly, dirty, and different. Although he was removed from his home and no longer had to deal with his mother, he would have to deal with the problems inside of him forever.
David bounced from foster home to foster home for years and everyday he was there he had to deal with the stereotypes of being a child without a home or family. David was ashamed of himself and began to loose hope in his future and ever being truely loved. But there was someone who helped David out a lot, Ms. Gold. After being around her David learned how to express himself more. He also developed a characteristic of bravery and honesty. Ms. Gold helped David realize some of the basic emotional needs, like making him free from fear by taking him away from his mother, she also made him feel a little more accepted.

He wanted to impress these boys and hopefully gain acceptance. Another example, is when David would perform childish stunts on his mini-bike. I think he just didn't want to grow up, the few friends he had were maturing but David was still stuck in a rut.
David also never had any kind of relationship with a girl for a very long time. He was very isolated and basically the only thing he did when in his teenage years was work. he had no time for an intimate relationship, but I don't think he could have handled it at that point in time anyway. And when he even tried to talk to a a girl he liked in his neighborhood, he was shot down. Her mother told David that she did not know why they allowed his kind in the neighborhood and that he was a filthy hooligan, and he reeked of street trash. He was told that he is not allowed to talk to her children or approach her house. That was definately yet another blow to his self-esteem. How could he possibly get close to anyone or love anyone when all he's had was abuse and neglect in his life?
But David did find love somewhere. It was in the home of the
