Yue was extremely displeased. That was something of an understatement, actually, but Yukito managed to hold him back ( Read more... )

Touya looked over at Yukito. "Hey, Nishimoto," he called cheerfully. "Tell your brother I'll bring our boyfriend back in a little while." He hit play on Tsukino's CD player. "Hey, Elvis," he said, happy to recognize it. He cranked the sound up. The better to disguise the lack of traffic sounds. "Yuki, see if she's got anything else good in the glove compartment."

"Tell Kinomoto," Kiyoshi replied dangerously, "that he can fuck off. This is going too far. Where are you?"

"I think we're near the observatory."

With a sigh Touya turned down the music and took the phone away from Yukito. "Thanks for wrecking that," he said to Kiyoshi. "You know that I have to take him someplace else now." He snapped his phone shut and shoved it in his pocket.

And kept right on driving. "I not going to take you someplace else," he said with a sigh. "But now they're going to turn up instead of waiting for me to bring you back. That sucks, Yuki. If I have to steal my time, I at least wanted an hour or two."

"Touya, they weren't going to wait anyway. And Kiyoshi was right: this is going a bit far."

Are we going to go? Yukito asked timidly.

"No. Why would we."

Touya spread out the blanket with a flourish. He sang quietly under his breath as he did so. He didn't know what a 'hunkahunka' was but he'd got most of the words right earlier in the evening and it was a good song. He was having a good night. Action felt good. He couldn't make Yukito--or Yue--respond to him, but making sure they couldn't ignore him was almost as good.

He ignored the sandwhiches he'd picked up and instead got out a cream soda, his book, and a flashlight. There was a little wheel in the book that he could spin around and line up with the dates that would supposedly show him what was--again supposedly--right above him. He opened his soda, took a drink, and laid back.

Yue huffed quietly and angrily.

"Fine. It's your choice."

Yukito carefully closed the car door behind him and began crossing the grass.

He'd just reached the 'sweet song of a choir' part of the song when Yukito sat down beside him. He lowered the book and turned his head and glad it was dark so that Yukito couldn't see the way he was beaming at him, his heart surely in his eyes. "Sandwiches in the basket," he said, nudging it with his foot. "And another flashlight."

He lifted the book a little and tilted it. He danced the light over the diagram and then aimed it at the stars. "Why couldn't the sky have the lines as well as the dots?" he asked.
