That's what we feed our puppy -- Nutro Natural Choice -- and so far so good. BTW, I've heard about this microchip on LJ land so much...Is THAT for identification? Is it expensive to do it? *curious*
A microchip is injected in between the dog's shoulderblades. If the dog gets lost and doesn't have its collar on, the owners can still be identified. A veterinarian or shelter will scan for a chip and if there is one, they look up the number on the computer. They will then be able to get the owner's contact information.
Memphis, my cat, got picked up and brought to the shelter one day. Because he had a chip between his shoulderblades, they were able to get my information and contact me to let me know they had him.
WOW!!! MAGNIFICENT IDEA!!!! I am convince. How old does the dog/cat need to be BEFORE they can inject the microchip? Not thinking to microchip our cats, but our GSD pup will be OUT there a lot. And so, I think she needs it more.
We feed our puppies (heh...old dogs, but we call 'em puppies) the Nutro for fat, old, lazy dogs and they really like it lots. The female (cleo) is sooooooooo picky, I'm just thrilled that we found something she would eat that is half-assed healthy. Telly (the male) will eat anything that's not nailed down or doesn't eat him first...Cleo, not so much.
We were feeding out dog the Nutro Natural Choice Ultra dog food. Then I sent hubby to the store and he came home with Purina One @@. Next time I will get it myself lol. The Natural Choice is supposed to be a really great brand. It may be more expensive but in the long run it is cheaper because your dog won't be eating as much. At least that is what I have read. We adopted our dog from a human society and he was already microchipped. I think it is a useful tool for lost pets.
My dogs had diarrhea when they were eating Nutro Natural Choice. They were eating the same amount of that as they were Purina One. But they didn't have the runs on Purina One, so I switched them back. They seem to be much happier on it. At least the first ingredient isn't corn, you know?
