Welcome to Texas...

... the land of the scorching sun. haha.

So anyway, since I am so bad at keeping in touch with people, I thought I would update this here old journal so that people can check in on me and see that I haven't perished in the hot summer heat. haha. So basically, I arrived in Dallas on Saturday, August 12th and am waiting to start my graduate degree here at the University of Texas at Dallas (actually in Richardson :P). I was lucky enough to find a roommate that is nice and has a car. His name is Xiwen and I would like to practice my Mandarin with him when we both have more time.

In any case, the past few days have been filled with running back and forth between buildings on campus to try to sort out my paperwork. I've also been busy getting settled in and buying furniture, etc. Truth be told, everything seems somewhat daunting at this moment in time. I mean, I'm out here pretty much by myself without any family around. I'm on a pretty limited income and I have to find out some way to keep the rent, utilities, and other bills paid. It's quite different than what I had experienced at Northeastern, but then again, that was fairly close to my home and public transportation was actually feasible.

So now, I am planning on waiting until my first paycheck before I start looking for a used car. I need a car because everything is just far enough away to be inconvenient. In the land of... well, lots of land, it seems everything is spread out. So walking to the grocery store, while not an absurd idea, would make even the hardiest person sweat and feel fairly warm. Anywho, what I should be doing now is going to read up on some papers or whatnot that my professors have written. That would be a good way to prepare for an assistantship position, is it not? And with that, I bid my readers adieu. I will try to keep this thing updated, and heck, perhaps even add pictures if possible. Thanks for reading and drop me a line if you wanna :)
