I have Sci-Fi fridays, and I am a happy girl.

Haven 1x01: Welcome to Haven and 1x02: Butterfly

Initial impression of the show is that I don't think it's the absolute best thing in the world, but I absolutely love it anyway. Audrey Parker is a brilliant character, charming and witty and smart, and I love the idea of her being the open-minded one. Normally it's the newcomer that's the doubter, and I like that they switched it around; consciously or unconsciously defying the model that the X-Files set up.

I think that Audrey and Nate have a really great dynamic. They have instant chemistry, and I don't mean the kind where I necessarily think they're fall in love or whatever, just great banter, a kind of instant click noise listening to them talk. They're uneasy at first, but by the end of the pilot they're already in synch, and that's just awesome to watch.

I'm kind of terribly uninterested in the whole mystery mother drama, I gotta admit. But I'm fascinated by the whole "town of people with superpowers," especially since the town itself doesn't seem to really realize. And I'm wondering how the whole "troubles" thing is gonna play out, especially since that doesn't seem to refer to the metas themselves- all of them so far have been good people with no control. So I'm looking forward to where it's going.

And again, Audrey is awesome. She's pretty and clever and ballsy and banters like a fiend, and now she's gotten herself a partner who's got the Oz-like laconic thing going on, and he seems as pleased and bemused by her as I am, so that's neat to watch.

Overall: about to start tonight's episode, and totally looking forward to it.

Haven 1x03: Harmony

-Look! An interracial couple!
-Nathan and Audrey have the greatest banter. The whole conversation about small-town policing was just hilarious.
-"Come for the food, stay for the drugs." Heh.
-Damn, the whole bit with the dude and his suddenly sane wife was just killer. Ouch.
-Ahahahahaha Duke was mocking Nate's impotence. I'd be more sympathetic if Nate weren't such a prick to him.
-Of course that seems fairly foolish now that Nate has lost it and BURNED HIS ARM BLACK WITH A LIGHTER EW EW EW ohmygod.
-Yep, going ballistic on Duke, shocker.
-Did Audrey just kinda-sorta deputize Duke? Dude, yes. I love the idea of her running roughshod over him because he seems to sort of like it when she does it, as opposed to Nate.
-I like the idea that keeps going that all of the people who keep showing abilities are people whose parents or grandparents arrived in Haven, almost all by some kind of accident. I'm wondering where they're going with it, if there's going to be some larger, explained mythology behind it, or if they're just leave it understated like that.
-"Crazier than an outhouse rat." Yeeeah, that's not the way that saying goes.
-I'm not surprised that they're going this way, with her taking her last moments of lucidity to make sure that her husband makes the sacrifice and does the right thing, but I'm glad they went there anyway.
-Oh, Lord, she has a gorgeous voice. Listening to it fall apart into muttering just hurts.
-I also like that being a cop dealing with weird shit isn't turning into "hunt down people warped by their powers and jail/kill them" and instead, it's just a matter of finding unique solutions and taking those abilities and doing good things with it. The thought of taking some of the patients onto the boat together and going way out at sea is just, wow. I love Audrey for coming up with the idea, and Nate for believing in her logic and letting them go through with it.
-Oh, Duke. I love him. There's nothing quite like a charming rogue who secretly wants to be a good guy. I totally can't wait to find out the history between him and Nate, though. That is some crazy intensity.
-"Nah, nobody can fix you." Ouch, Audrey. Poor Nate.

Overall: Lots of fun, looking forward even more to the rest of the season, and I'm not going to complain about Duke being shirtless.

Eureka 1x03: All the Rage

This was genuinely freaky. Like, Eureka is a wacky show. It's funny, and usually heartfelt, and frequently swings between the two like a monkey on crack, but it's rarely scary. And it's not like it reached even Supernatural levels of scary, but still, the emergency lighting and the mobs of angry people freaked me out more than actual zombie movies I've seen. I think it's something wired into the base of the human brain, the fight-or-flight in response to aggression, and we just don't respond the same way to the shambling (or fast-moving) undead. People going absolutely out of their minds with rage just set off that Eeep! reaction. Dude, even Fargo was scary, and I never thought I would say that. Ever.

I'm still "eh" faced at the whole Tess thing. Not at Tess herself, because dude, I love Tess, when she and Jack got together last season I was really hoping that it would be a lasting thing and he and Allison would finally let it go, but whatever, it's not like I'm surprised the show is back on the Carter-and-Allison train because hello. But I think I'd feel a little more in tune with Carter if they'd shown more than five seconds of the breakup, or the year before it, or anything. I feel like they keep telling me that he and Tess didn't work as a couple, but the last time I saw them on screen they were working just fine, so I can't sympathize much with him, and I sympathize way too much with her. Also, dude, ALTERNATE UNIVERSE. Just because things didn't work out in the long term with Tess Prime doesn't mean they won't here, because she's not quite the same person. Gah, it's just annoying. Very unsubtle writing-out-of-a-character. At least Stark got to go in a blaze of glory when Ed Quinn wanted out.

I'm also skeptical of Henry's sudden wife, but a) at least she's not stupid and is perfectly aware that he's acting weird as shit, and b) she's awesome, hello, and c) Trevor calling him on having a crush on her seems accurate, and is also adorable. I am optimistic. Hopefully she will not die horribly, because I don't want to see Henry angst for another two seasons. I'm too busy enjoying him doing science-y things with James Callis. Henry and Carter are my favorite tv friendship, but it's cool to see Henry having another boyfriend to play with.

Overall: holy shit, Jo pinning Zane against the wall was really fucking hot. Damn.
