SBA, up and running! Well, staggering with a bit of a limp, but UP anyway!
*bursts into dance and song* I did it, I did it... Geez, Rex Harrison I ain't *g* but I did it!
The hopefully (very, very hopefully) useful new Sorority Boys archive is finally up!
!
Sorority Boys Archive!
Alright, so I still suck at naming things, but at least it's up and looks like it's working. \o/
It's Work in Progress, so don't upload any actual stories yet. Anything happening there till, say, February, will be considered TESTING and deleted for the grand opening, which will happen when all details are finalized.
The logistics of figuring out how to mark pairings sucked (how does Adam/Adina get it on with, say, Lex, without it looking like a threesome? And Adam/AdinaxLex is just confusing, not to mention Adam/Adina/Dave/Daisy) so I chickened out on the issue and tried an alternative.
Also, all pre-set stuff is based off the compilation of SB fics I've gathered last year, since housing those is the main goal, after all. Again, the list did not help me any in regards to genres or categories, so I left that field up to the posters. I figure once a number of stories is up I can always go back and add them all in properly.
Thoughts, comments, Bueller in a skirt?
Now, the fun part: to avoid going back to my old post and bugging all the folks who volunteered to help out back then, *this* is a re-call to arms, as it were.
Work in Progress: I'm going to keep the upload links striked out, even though they obviously work, until the details of the archive's outlook - story page layout, CSS, images (background and other) and any other kinks that need polishing - are finalized.
Volunteering: If you're willing to do some art or coding for a good cause, drop me a line, tell me what you need from me, and off you go!
Re: images
- I'd like to keep it dial-up friendly, but if it's pretty and I can fit it in, I'll certainly try to use it. The index page needs at least one banner (if not a major do-over), and the other form pages can have backgrounds, or separate banners, or anything, really. (Check other AutomatedArchives if you're not sure just how and where images can be clumped in. I can provide a few links, if needed)
Re: coding, CSS especially
- the current one is the AA default, with minor modifications. I'm not a big fan of the huge round font, though, so even if all you can do is offer suggestions for alternate colors and/or fonts, it'll be appreciated. (Again, I can show you what wonders CSS can do for an AutomatedArchive, if that'll help you get started.)
Re: testing!
- any and all texts uploaded to the archive till "The Grand Opening" *g* will be considered test uploads. Feel free to make a .txt file of any kind (please keep it polite and non-spam-y though, 'kay?) and upload it, or post comments, do search after search... Any time you can spare to tinker around the archive and give me a shout back if anything doesn't work as it should is GOLD.
Re: suggestions
Last but not least, anything you don't like anywhere on the archive and/or have an alternative suggestion, I'm all ears. Wrestling with coding does not a creative environment make (just be glad I didn't name the whole thing "Shimmy!"... although "Sweet!" does have a kind of ring to it, hmmm...) so save me, and more importantly, the archive from dull drabness and help give it a bit of literal and not-so-literal color! ^.^ Pretty please with Roberta's sad, puppy eyes!
That all said, I'm off back to the code salt mines, to try and figure out what does where why, and why not what I want it to? Le sigh.
Um. Should I crosspost this, or would anyone be willing to pimp it along? *more puppy eyes, just in case*
