one direction: a primer of sorts
listen, I know it seems unlikely but the fact is on occasion people come to me and say, Mary, please tell me about this band you're obsessed with!!!! I must know everything there is to know about Harry Styles ASAP!*

so this post is for Tina and for anyone else who's curious about these boys.
One Direction was put together on The X Factor (UK) in 2010, where they came in third, and then were signed by Simon Cowell and went on to record two albums and break records and tour the world and become beloved by all.
(haha I'm such a flop, I had never actually watched this one before just now, but siiigh, how presh are they.)
Okay so these are the boys, from youngest to oldest:
Harry Styles, 19 (SIGH, I KNOW). Cheeky and charming and unfailingly polite and lovely. Has lots of ridiculous tattoos that he's amassed in the course of a year and a half. Is something of a hipster. Has a tendency of dating older women. He's the baby of the band and sometimes it definitely shows but a lot of the time he seems like a bit of an old soul and one of the more mature members. Idk if he'd admit it but he likes attention.
Niall Horan, 19. Irish! Loves playing the guitar and drinking pints. lol. Very funny and easy-going and affable. Good about interacting with fans on twitter, etc. Tends to do a lot of the talking for the band onstage and at press conferences and such. Cute boy.
Liam Payne, 19. When they first formed, Liam's reputation was as the sensible~ one, but they (especially Louis) have kind of corrupted him and broken down his walls a bit since then so he's actually pretty goofy. Nice guy, very enthusiastic, very talented but frankly (SORRY) he's a little dim ngl. (SORRY!)
Zayn Malik, 20. Possibly has the most beautiful face on the planet?? Looks like a supermodel, is actually pretty fuckin nerdy, haha. Likes comic books and superheroes and drawing. He's half-Pakistani, and Muslim, and he has gotten a lot of racist, Islamophobic shit for that. :-( Kind of shy/quiet, but clearly really goofy and playful and sweet when he comes out of his shell. His one flaw is that ummmm, he seems to have a habit of cheating on his girlfriends? :-//// idk, there have been multiple indications that he's cheated on his current girlfriend but she's stayed with him so i d k what's going on there. OTHER THAN THAT he is really excellent.
Louis Tomlinson, 21. Has a reputation as the funny, irresponsible one, but there are also moments where you can see him take on the oldest member/older brother role and be very caretaking and protective. Adventurous and all about living for the moment and enjoying life. Also sarcastic and silly and loves to make people laugh.
