Thanksgiving

Nov 27, 2008 11:34

As a vegetarian, I've never been that into Thanksgiving, since it's a holiday whose biggest unifying symbol is the consumption of a dead animal. And the part of me that attempts to be socially conscious is uncomfortable with some of the history of this country after the arrival of Europeans (to that end I appreciated this article).

That said, I can recognize the importance of stopping and remembering to be grateful for the things we have. I know that I have trouble transcending the sometimes crappy and stressful aspects of my life and recognizing all the good parts. I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for my friends. I am thankful for my school and for the opportunity to attend it. I am thankful for my house, for my bed, for my computer, and for a stable source of food. I am thankful for music, for books, for TV (haha), and for writing. I am thankful for my city, my state, my country, and for my right to vote.

And most importantly, I am thankful for pie.

And for you.
