Back to School 2010

So I'm moved in to my new house and everything seems to be going swimmingly. The house itself is beautiful, air conditioned, washer-dryer, and the split-level format gives a decent amount of privacy without making it impossible to hang with my roommates. The only issue I've encountered so far is that the power has gone out twice, and only in selective rooms. My room and bathroom are 2 of the ones affected-- we're not sure what's going on so Gianna and Jon are going to talk to the realty agency to basically say WTF. Later this week I also need to go with them to sign my lease agreement and pick up my key, but according to Gianna she only got the "extra paperwork" that Townside decided we needed to have to them yesterday, so it may not have been processed yet. Apparently we've been getting 2 different answers upon whether my 2 cats count as 1 pet or 2; it's supposed to be getting looked into and we'll have an answer by Monday.

Gianna is great-- we've spent a few hours just chatting and playing with our respective animals. All of the house rules are very fair and reasonable and things I probably would have been doing anyway (don't walk around naked, please). I think we're going to get along wonderfully. Jon is very quiet but seems very nice as well; he reminds me a lot of Matt.

The kitties finally seem to be settling in. The first day Gus wouldn't come out from under the bed until pretty late, and yesterday Peaches was doing the same thing. Gus now seems to be TOTALLY at home-- to the point where I'm a little worried that he's going to start pouncing my roommates and possibly Ozzie the sweet doggie. I coaxed Peachy out for a little while and she hung out with me on my bed. Honestly the main thing she seems to need right now is a lot of reassurance and cuddles, but she's been a cuddly cat the whole time I've known her, so I don't know if this is status quo or OMG WTF IS GOING ON. Both cats are eating and drinking, and I know they've both poo'd. There are 2 separate clumps of urination, one of which I saw Peaches make, but they're in the same box. I think Gus probably made the other one because by this point if he hadn't peed he'd be straining and yowling in pain instead of bouncing around chasing flies and trying to trip his mommy.

Orientation yesterday was a little crazy, thanks to a combination of the power glitch turning off my alarm, getting behind a tractor going approximately 5 miles an hour, and starting out 2 hours late on purpose because my 3rd roommate's dad told us we didn't need to be there early unless we wanted to be bored. Mom and Dad split moments before I got checked in, saving themselves about 6 hours of unnecessary boredom, which they used to drive home and go pick up the Pfang. I sat through a couple of intro sessions and ate a boxed lunch around 10 am (which had a turkey sandwich in it, hooray for cannibalism of our mascot?). From what I saw at the Engineering transfer session, the ratio of men to women is about 50:1. Me likey those odds. My schedule seems to be, for the most part, all worked out for fall-- there are a couple of possible glitches but it's stuff all the transfers have to go through (stalking add-drop to see if i can squeeze in my Technical Writing required course this semester or have to wait on it for later). I picked up my ID (which is possibly the worst picture of me ever taken, thanks to having walked around in the humidity for about 5 hours beforehand), my software bundle, and signed my networking agreement.

Then I broke the cardinal rule and Went To the Grocery Store While Hungry. My shelf of the pantry is now filled with Food-Lion brand granola bars and pasta.

Goals for today are to go by Schiffert Health to sign a meningitis waiver, get my summer parking pass, go to wal-mart to pick up a lidded trash can into which to put Kitty Droppings (since we apparently cannot use the dumpster 10 feet from our house), and see if I can't sort through a couple more boxes.

Pictures of the kitties and house will be coming soon to facebook. =)
