the requisite dreamwidth post

Apr 26, 2009 20:52

Dreamwidth is the big thing on everyone's minds it seems. Yes, I have an account there (I'm Sori! Not Soriwith a bunch of random numbers! YAY!), but I honestly have no idea what I'm going to be doing over there.

In a perfect world? I'll post over there, and read my flist from over there, and just...be there; in honesty, though, who knows? I ( Read more... )

a bunch of random numbers

I keep thinking, "Ooh, 1776, I love that musical! Oh, wait, darn."

Seriously. The numbers make some sort of sense to me, but to anyone else? Yeah, not so much. :D The name alone makes me love dw. :D

I've added you there just because for now, I tend to cross post. :-D I'll probably continue cross posting. the most I MIGHT do is import my fic/icon journal because some of those fics were lost in a blow up. :/

It's going to be complicated figuring out where everyone is and isn't, and managing to filter effectively. heh. Change (even change that might not happen!) is hard.

I created an account there, as well, but for now I'm just sitting on it. If you want to friend me (whatever it's called over there), that would be awesome. I'm not friending anyone back at the moment because I'm not doing anything over there, but knowing where to find you should I hop over would be great.

Should I friend people anyway? Am I being rude? Will they all de-friend me before I decide what to do?!!!

I posted a little note to my DWJ explaining basically what you said, since that's my situation as well. I friended (i.e. subscribed) to everyone on my flist who has declared their intention to make DW their primary journal (and put them on a special filter here so I don't read them twice) and I give everyone who subscribes to me access, because I would like to be able to lock things to fannish people but not random passers-by, and anything I might post there in the future that I would want to "friendslock" I will lock with a filter.

The only thing (so far) that I dislike about DW is the whole access vs subscribing thing. It's...so...huh. I don't know. It's one more thing to have to contemplate. We've all been filtering to some extent for years, but their way makes it so obvious. Juries out whether that's a good thing or bad thing.

As someone who feels it's rude to make someone think you are reading them when you are not, I like the idea that you can say, "okay, you can read my locked posts but I'm not reading your journal," or alternatively, "I am happy to read your journal but I want to post things to a group of people I know better." And you can still have filters along with those, of course (although I don't think reading filters have been implemented yet).

I have no idea what I'll do and where I'll end up! I've added/friended you there - I'm still me!
