Quick reminder: 6 people, 2 rowing boats, 7 days, 2 islands.
The Rowing club where we spent our first night. The "social" rooms of the club are in this house seperate from the boat house, and while the boathouse dates back to the late 20's, the house in the picture was originally the bungalow built for the German commander of the small port that was constructed in the very beginning of the German occupation 1940-45.

Pebles are pretty...

These are the vessels for our sea voyage.

Three men in a boat. These are the other two...

Picking dinner... Yup, mussels are delicious, and they're everywhere in the Limfjord!
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000a6p2g/s320x240)
That's dinner... They're not as pretty as what you get in a restaurant, but just as tasty!
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000a733e/s320x240)
Oh, and an evening stroll of course! That bumb at the top is an ancient burial mound, and they're scattered all over the countryside in that part of the country.

The sun also sets...

The sun also rises...
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000aqgcp/s320x240)
When staying away from civilised areas (i.e. places with pontoons or docks) we had to lift the heavy buggers unto the beach...
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000aarzd/s320x240)
The weather Gods treated us rather kindly... This sort of water is known as liquid porn amongst rowers, since you can't really look at it without feeling a sudden desire... (To row, of course, but never the less...)

One night we stayed at a youth hostel by a small fishing port, and this baby was docked in the port:
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000ac63a/s320x240)
She's just a replica, of course, but still... Lovely ship!
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000adr71/s320x240)
This was the only night I slept indoors on the trip; we were staying at a youth hostel in an old merchant's house that has been converted into a cultural and historical centre in recent years, replete with silo and all.

And me...
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000awdys/s320x240)
This is from a place where we slept two nights, and both nights a couple of us slept out on the pontoon, lulled by the waters and thankfully not shat on by the gulls...

We had a resting day on the small island of Fur, and I decided to do some lonely sightseeing (i.e. getting some Me-Time) around the island. First the church, a typical, 12th century Danish parish church with various later aditions like the tower and most of the fittings.

Interiour:

Church ships, as they are called, are quite common in Danish churches, especially of course in regions with a strong naval or fishing tradition.
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000b1rd9/s320x240)
This fantastic altar piece used to have to lateral panels to it, but they were lost when it was replaced with a 19th Century horrid painting, and when the old altar piece was restored in the 20th Century the lateral panels could not be retrieved.
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000b2g6c/s320x240)
The pulpit. Also very typical of old Danish churches; this one is a 16th century pulpit in carved and painted wood. It too had been dismantled and then reinstated, which accounts for its somewhat strange appearence against the whitewashed wall.
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000b3rt9/s320x240)
And this is the romanesque (12th/13th Century or so?) baptismal font with ornaments depicting Christ's struggle with the Devil.

The island of Fur is known for its peculiar geology and its many fossiles; this is an example from the tiny - but interesting - museum:
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000b5fsr/s320x240)
And then a stroll to take in some scenery...
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000b7tg0/s320x240)
You see why this island is known for geological reasons?
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000b885b/s320x240)
This might not seem a lot, but it's rather astonishing to sit down, break open a piece of dried clay and see tiny little pieces of fossile matter. Those flecks in the clay are millions of years old. It was more impressive than it looks in pictures, simply because of the huge scale of time involved.

And a quiet scene from the little harbour on Fur:

Rowing boat moored for lunch:

And my view while kicking back after lunch:
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000be0rt/s320x240)
Oh, and what's a young, enamoured man to do, if not making sandcastles to his beloved?
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000bfhyw/s320x240)
I particularly like the rather busty mermaid I concocted... Also windmills, a light house and some boats.
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000bgass/s320x240)
Yeah, I'm mooshy. Deal with it!
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000bh3fc/s320x240)
After a nap in the shade I opened my eyes, and this is what I saw:
![](http://pics.livejournal.com/sorenr/pic/000bkwyd/s320x240)
And that takes us to the last picture, taken in the rain at a motorway service station with a dingy little diner called Soren's rest...

Yeah, so that's it. Hope you enjoyed them if you bothered browsing through them all. (I have 200 more on my computer...)
