Springtime really does get to me. It's not just a running joke. It's not that I don't like the weather and the rainstorms and the cherry blossums because I do, but for some reason they fill me with despair. I seem to be incapable of enjoying anything in a straight forward and uncomplicated manner.

So. zingibar and I went to the Brillobox about a week and a half ago to see Styles for Modern Living and the Arks. Never mind that I hate the Brillobox. The Arks were one of those goth bands that don't know they're goth. They could have been really good, but their frontman annoyed me. I don't know how to feel about goth bands that don't know they're goth. It should be a good thing that it's OK to sound vaguely like the Church, but I just don't have the same respect for someone who can walk down the street without being spat on.

Styles for Modern Living are a full band now. They're still good, I guess, but I miss the drum machine.

Then it was off to robots_suck's Vampires vs. Werewolves party. We watched The Hunger, An American Werewolf in London, Lost Boys and Ginger Snaps Back. I pretty much agree with his reviews, except that I liked Ginger Snaps Back even more than the original Ginger Snaps. We discussed the lack of a truely great werewolf movie, and that the difference between werewolves and vampires is really the difference between rock and pop.

That Sunday I was invited to a Seder at zingibar's, which I enjoyed quite a bit, aside from having to chug Manishevitz. I think I got a few plagues of Egypt on my trousers.

Monday was thedogofsputnik's birthday party, for which he was given free reign to DJ in zingibar's living room. The music was strange, the cake was fantastic, and robots_suck even found another Current 93 fan to talk to. By 2 thedogofsputnik was so drunk he tried on the wire dressform hanging from the wall which rather suited him.

On Wednesday I attended an uncharicteristicly enjoyable Worldwrights meeting. It was nice to not have to deal with another novel (especially considering the quality of the last two), and I actually liked the story that was up. Next meeting is The Epemeralizing Device. I have no idea what to expect.

come_love_sleep, vermilionskies and I went to see Silent Hill on Friday. It was pretty in a Francis Bacon-y sort of way, but really not scary in the slightest. According to vermilionskies they cut alot of the plot out of the video game, which if you think about it is kind of ridiculous.

Saturday robots_suck and I went to a fetish ball at Mr. Smalls. It was mostly really boring and the music was terrible. I guess you would have to be a masochist to actually like shitty industrial music. I think I've figured out the rules: you must the use the exact same drum line or else the DJ will not be able to beatmix. For the rest of the song you get a choice of eight sounds, of which you must chose six. Add the most obvious b-movie samples you can find and stir. The BDSM stage show might have been good, but with half of the action taking place on the half of the stage we couldn't see it was mostly just silly. I got my picture taken (which I'll post as soon as they email them to me) and robots_suck got flogged because it was cheeper that going to a chiropractor.

make it stop, consuming popular culture, religious tourism, gadding about, live music
