Question about clans, internet browsers

Are clans necessary? I know you can finish the game without them, but am I missing things by not joining a clan? I'm fairly new to the game, a level 15 Turtle Tamer and a level 14 Disco Bandit, and haven't ever ascended, if that helps your decision ( Read more... )

I use firefox for everything. You may have to download some add ons, but I haven't had an issue with it.

Clans allow you to talk to people; and to go in and use the dungeons, as well as Clan Stash, halls, etc - some of those clans may add extra adventures, or have meat trees that allow you to get meat once a day.

Some clans are PvP heavy, others aren't.

You don't NEED a clan, but you might find it a lot of fun. I'd suggest trying one and you can always leave if you don't like it. :)

Depending on what the clan has in its rumpus room, you can get extra meet, extra adventures, and stuffed toys. In the clan I'm in, that can be up to 1500 extra meat a day, and an extra 8 adventures. The clan stash lets you build up karma by donating items you don't need to the stash. You can then use that karma to take things you need from the stash. None of the above is available in ronin or hardcore. The rumpus room also has a couch that can give a better return at some cases then sleeping in your camp site. If you want to adventure in the sewers or the slime tube, you access them from the clan basement.

As for Firefox, I'm using 3.0.13 on Windows7 with no problems. Now, I do know that some Greasemonkey scripts are broken thanks to the earthquake, and the resulting changes to the page code. Other than that, I've had no problems. Which version are you running, and what platform are you running it on?

Is it sad that the stuffed toy are what has most intrigued me?

I have version 3.0.11, maybe that's the problem.

I'm in a clan, and it's a good one, but I rarely hang out in chat. I'm not a chat person in ANY context. However, clans can provide a lot of benefit - a good clan has a forum, is willing to help out newbies without being assholes about it, and if you're not in hardcore, you can dip into the clan stash and get that one item that the monsters just don't want to drop for you. (one or more; each clan has different rules about the clan stash) If you decide to go hardcore, your clan can be a font of information, speed run guides, and taunting. :D

finally, you can't do Hobopolis or the Slime Tube without a clan. Those rolled out just as I was starting my HC run, so I haven't played there yet, but they seem to be a good time.

I'm in KOL Addicts, and thoroughly enjoy them.

I use firefox exclusively, and haven't had a problem. Maybe disable your Greasemonkey (if you use it) and try again?

One of the reasons I was asking was because I'm not a chat person either. It seems quite obvious I need help, though. Hmm.

That didn't work, but thank you anyway.

I think that there is a significant portion of the playerbase that uses Firefox, if one judges by the number of Greasemonkey scripts players have written. :)

And clans... if you find a good one, it's much like home. Really though, I guess it would depend on what reasons you wanted to be in a clan for, since many are purposed around different things!

I suppose my aim would be to see and do everything. Thank you for breaking it down like that.

I've edited to explain my problems a little better, mostly as they've changed.
