fandom; HSJ, Jrs.
rating; G - PG? IDK man.
comments; A bunch of flash fictions and drabbles. SOMETIMES I WISH THAT PEOPLE WOULD ELABORATE THESE IDEAS FOR ME but oh well. I was supposed to tackle all fifty themes from
1sentence or something then it turned into this and I got lazy and now I'm just going to post this to get it out of my system. :|
#01 - Ring
Takaki doesn't (rather, he can't) think of what to say when he sees Yabu concealing a small box -- a small, red velvet box -- that contains a small glint which represents a love quite the opposite in his right hand.
"Congratulations," Shoon says to Yabu with the brightest smile. Yabu shifts to hide his right hand behind his back and slips the box into his pocket. He is jittery and nearly breaks the new vase Julie bought to replace the old one, which Shintaro and his group soiled with their permanent markers and non-toxic crayons.
"F-for what?" Yabu stutters.
Shoon chuckles and gently swipes Yabu's bangs off his face. "Your single made it to number one on the charts, silly."
Yabu is dumbfounded. He doesn't know whether it is from the relief that it wasn't what he had expected or from the shock of the previous realization. "A-ah."
#02 - Hero
In Chinen's eyes, Ohno doesn't need to have superpowers or wear his underwear on the outside - he already does. Everyone firmly believes that Chinen is delirious.
#03 - Memory
"Yama-chan, over here!" Yuto calls out with enthusiasm as he waves wildly at Yamada and his companion, who both thought it immature yet cute for tall, gangly boy to jump up and down and flail around like that. A pair of hands push Yuto back on the ground and their owner leans in, making Yuto almost lose his balance. "Hurry up, Hikaru! I feel so lonely without you~" Yabu shouts. Clinging onto Yuto and digging his chin comfortably on the younger boy's shoulder, he continues to tease. "If you don't come here soon, I might have to steal Yuto away~"
Yabu feels a glare, probably Inoo's, boring into his back. He doesn't care; Yamada and Hikaru are already planning how to pose for the camera, Daiki is trying to keep Inoo's attention on their conversation, Takaki is busy playing with Ryutaro and Chinen and the jacket Yuto is wearing makes Yuto warm and soft and that's all that really matters.
"Um," Yuto chokes. "Yabu-kun. Can't. Breathe."
Yabu lets go. "Sorry," he apologizes and promptly fixes Yuto's clothes and hair. Yuto manages to escape from Yabu's motherly tendencies finds sanctuary with Keito when Yabu licks his thumb to flatten a cowlick.
"I didn't know you had a tripod," the taller boy comments as he approaches Keito, who is setting up the camera. "Keito has everything, ne?"
Keito fights the urge to flinch. "My dad gave me one on my birthday," Keito tells Yuto. He doesn't tell him that his father had forgotten about the aforementioned day for three years straight, or that he actually got the camera two months prior, or that his mother had reprimanded his father about it and threatened to take him back to England. Keito opts to bite his lip and keep quiet. "It's ready--"
"GUYS, IT'S READY!"
Seconds later, Keito sees nine other people fighting for camera space and hears cries of "Move over, I was here first!"
"Inoo-chan, Chinen's bullying me again~"
"Dai-chan's short, so he should be in the front with Ryutaro."
"No, Ryutaro's way taller than that."
"You guys are mean, I'm never getting you birthday presents again."
"Don't be like that, Arioka~"
"Especially you, Yabu."
"Shut up!"
The rest of HSJ stops making noise after Ryutaro's short outburst. Keito presses a button and dashes to the group, and in that moment, Hikaru squeezes Keito between himself and Chinen, the latter who blurts out, "Everyone, say Takagi!"
Takaki half-frowns at the fourteen-year-old, but agrees to go along with it after Yabu pats him on the back. When they see the red LED light blink, all of HSJ let out one big "Takagi!" before the camera clicks, flashes and saves another memento for the ten of them to keep.
Record companies sell entertainment. Parlors sell beauty. Photo booths sell memories, and it is the only thing that truly lasts more than a thousand lifetimes.
"Yuto, it's over, you can let go of me now. Yuto. Yuto?"
#05 - Run
"Tag, you're it!" Yuto blurts out and taps Yamada's back when he's not looking, and the rest of 7 scatters.
#06 - Hurricane
"It's our new group name," Chinen declares. "since we can't be part of Arashi and Sakurai-kun kicked me out of his closet two weeks ago."
#08 - Cold
When the ice cream that Yuto gives him is too warm, the hand that he lends him is too cold and the space between them is too big, Yamada knows that Yuto isn't himself.
#10 - Drink
A phone call to Miura Haruma, a wild goose chase around Roppongi for a lost Gokusen cast member, and a rather loud Kiriyama is all it takes for Takaki to get on the front page of countless, baseless tabloids the next day; Junta only asked the waiter for some water.
#13 - View
Gazing down at the audience while he was more than ten feet up in the air was more terrifying than exhilarating the first time for Keito.
"Oh, you'll get the hang of it after the first thirty run-throughs," Hikaru reassures him in the most casual manner. "Yabu kept on flailing in the air for a whole hour with a nasty wedgie while the machine had a bug, it was hilarious."
Keito isn't sure of what to say. "Yeah, that totally made him feel better, Hikaru," Yabu snaps back.
#16 - Cover
Covering 7 with a blanket is what Keito does when Chinen falls asleep on the bus, when Ryutaro is too tired to make another snide remark, when Yuto runs out of energy waiting for Yamada to text back.
#17 - Promise
"You said you wouldn't!" Yamada whines when Yuto tells the interviewer another embarrassing story about Yamada's sleeptalking and eating habits while getting a few giggles from everyone in the process.
#18 - Dream
Dust on the decade-old grand piano is swept away by Inoo when Hikaru comes over. Hikaru coughs. Opening the cover, he sees that the keys have yellowed and the sheen on the ebony wasn't as bright as before.
"My parents wanted me to be a pianist," Inoo tells him, a little nostalgic as his fingers brush against the surface of the piano. He remembers the seven-year-old him from before who looked forward to each piano lesson with a visible eagerness in his eyes.
"You were really great at our last concert," Hikaru says in a way that makes Inoo regret quitting altogether. "Why did you stop taking lessons?"
The look on Inoo's face softens and he mumbles in a voice so small, as if he is ashamed to admit it, "There was no one to impress."
#19 - Talent
It's such a waste, Hikaru thinks, to lose such a talent for music for lack of ambition. His hands gliding over the ivory, searching for the right notes, striking them to express an emotion, to convey a message -- to Hikaru, Inoo had truly turned the skill into an art, and he never wanted anything more in the world than to watch him play for thousands of people and to let him hear their sincere applause.
Okay, so maybe he wanted Inoo and his own rock band for himself more, but that wasn't the point.
#20 - Candle
"It's shivering," Ryutaro absently comments as the sole flame on the wick that keeps them safe flickers in the dark. A gust of wind blows into the room from a window, which Yamada shuts tight. Yuto places a hand over the candle, as if shielding it, and gently murmurs, "Even fire needs shelter from the cold."
#21 - Silence
"I won't tell Yabu," Chinen whispers with a smile when Keito whimpers after tripping over the said BEST member's cellphone.
#26 - Ice
"There are two ice cubes in my drink. I told you to hold the ice, didn't I?" Shintaro snaps. He shoves the glass of lemonade into his brother's hands, causing some of the liquid to spill onto said brother's shirt. "Fix it."
Ryutaro groans.
#40 - Whisper
"Roller coaster," and Inoo falls off his seat.
