That isn't fair play at all, gods of the island. Not one bit.

Is he all right? Will he be all right? Goddammit, he didn't need this foolish thing to happen. Damn. Damn.

Do I have to line up somewhere to punch this thing in the fucking throat?

And before you say anything retarded, yes, I'm perfectly well aware that this shithole doesn't actually have anything I can maim. Well, apart from the general landscape, but that's too easy.

In which case, you've already answered your question quite well on your own.

Even if you could find those gods "Memento" and "Eden", of course, I can't imagine "glowing figures" to be susceptible to physical damage anyway. *he's pissed off and being as sarcastic as he can - which isn't all that sarcastic. Ginko so plain*

Then I guess I better work out some way to damage them that isn't physical, huh?

Speaking of, what the fuck crawled up your ass and died?

A very close friend of mine was completely absorbed by the concept presented in those 'fake' memories. Their trust is fragile usually, without something like this happening.

Really, I'm just as angry as you might be. I've never had reason to question my memories before, in all my time here.

'Never'? Really? I'm honestly kind of fucking surprised. I thought you were smarter than that.

Let me re-word; even if I doubted them ever initially, after over two years of slowly recalling my life, I can see that all the pieces fit together. It's similar for everyone else, I believe-- *oh. ...but, wait a second, he nearly forgot when...*

..No. Actually, there is a missing piece in regards to my childhood. But that has to do with memories I should've retained, and not false recollections like this.

Here's a fun question for you: are you sure you've been here two years?

. . .

There have been times when we all completely couldn't remember the previous day. All of us, on the same day. If time had passed much more than just the one day, however, we would've seen evidence of it; potted plants would've wilted and died, and the like.

I don't see any basis of reasonable doubt in my time here, according to these memories. Once you doubt your immediate memories from the past day or week or month, then there's nothing you could do to escape the spiral of despair.

This fucker of an excuse for a magical landmass just conned a significant portion of its residents into remembering in vivid detail getting married to other residents. And it consequently wiped those memories clear, while leaving everyone with two mementoes of a fake marriage they no longer remember, even in false memories. I'd say that's grounds enough for reasonable fucking doubt about everything.

As for your spirals...sometimes the corkscrew is just another twist on the damn rollercoaster anyway.

I can agree with you there. I said I "never doubted before" for a reason.

Sounds like a headache worse than what it's worth in the end. We have to stay grounded somewhere.

Some people prefer just to be content.

...But you have a point. All the same, wild conjecture won't help anything. If you're not careful, you'll start doubting your very being itself.

It won't kill me. After all, I'm Xanxus. If all I have is my name, I'll just build myself from there.

Where do you draw the line, though, on who you are? Earlier you were doubting your very memories of your stay here in town.

Doubting your circumstances and doubting yourself are very different things. Besides, if you don't know who or what you are, then you can be anything you fucking well want to be, can't you?

...All right. I was trying to figure out just "how far off the ground" you were going.

I would still hesitate to doubt every memory I've received, however. The island has its pranks like this to screw with our heads, but it revealed those memories to be fake a week after. I'm not convinced they would mean to trick us doubly by giving us entirely fake memories all this time.
