It struck me today that I should take more pictures. I mean, that is one of the blessings of a digita camera, is it not? I decided that I should take more pictures of home. So, under the theme of "Close-up"--here are some close up images of my home.
I live at 3572 St. John Rd. Our house has a courtyard in the front-yard, with two pillars.
On top of the archway of pillars, we planted blue morning glory. Most of the year it looks fabulous, new blossoms opening up every day to replace the old ones. Mum didn't want to plant them, but after she saw how beautiful they are, she became a fan.
Personally, I find blue morning glorys the most appealing. They also match our aqua-marine colored front-door.
Mum said she wanted to plant a fig tree in the backyard. Dad said he didn't want to because they grow really big and attract flies with the rotting figs. So, they compromised and bought a small fig tree that we keep in a pot. We get about 20-30 figs off it per year.
I couldn't resist. This is my baby-Yum Yum. She is such a sweety, and likes sitting outside in the heat.
We also like succulents a lot in the house. We have this little jungle of succulents growing in pots on the backyard table. I love their muted warm colors. I just finished watering, so you can see the drop of water on it.
Another specimen from our succulent garden.
This is another lovely succulent, hanging out in a hanging pot. I'm suprised it stays alive, considering how we often forget to water it.
This is a toad house, but mostly snails live in it. It is hanging out by one of our vines that used to grow on the back overhanging, half of it died last winter.
I *love* these little dudes. They are succulents too, but we have them planted them in the ground, and they make great ground cover. They just sneek into the little nooks and crannies making our garden seem fuller, and older.
This is the jasmin we planted on a trellace on the side yard. As you can see, the 100+ degree days are getting to it.
More Yum Yum love, as she sniffs the jasmine.
This is our rooster windmill! Its pretty rusted over as you can see, but it is still a fun peice of yard art. (notice the Prune in the background)
The pattern on the right is from my grandmother's re-appolstered chair. The thing on the left is a hand crochetted blanket that my first baby-sitter I ever had gave me as a gift when I graduated highschool.
This doll my grandfather bought my mom and her sisters from Japan. He bought three of them, after World War II when he was a commerical sailor, sailing the high seas.
This little Japanese doll my parents found at a garage sale. It is actually a candle-holder (candles go in her hands). My parents used to go garaging saling for cheap furnature, but now, I think we have all the furnature we need.
A clock (reading the wrong time) my mum got as a retirement gift when she retired from Pacific Bell (SBC) in 2000. We don't use it, but it is impressive looking.
Our nation's founding fathers--Washington and Jefferson. My mum bought these for my dad when she and my sister toured the east coast last summer.
