So, today we went and checked out the Ikea that opened up in good ol' West Sacramento. How much do I love Ikea, let me count the ways! Not only for their awesome, and amazingly priced furnature in wonderful styles, but just...the sense of community that you feel while you are there. People of all races coming together under one roof to celebrate Northern European cheaply prices furnature and Swedish meatballs. I didn't buy too much stuff there, since I have nowhere to put it as it is, but I bought a new mug, some Swedish meatballs (to take back to SB), some Elderberry juice, and a few other odds and ends. I've now decided that when I get an apartment, I am going to shop at Ikea. For everything. This includes pots and pans.
Afterwards, I dragged my parents over to Oto's, the local Japanese market in preperation for making Japanese food tonight. When I got home I cooked, cooked, and cooked. I made the following:
*miso soup
*gyoza (vegetarian for dad, and meaty for mom, Ursula, and myself)
*grilled daikon
*sukiyaki
*rice
I admit, I got kind of stressed out...at one point I was cooking 4 things (all involving hot oil) simultaneously. Still, they came out alright in the end, although I think I should just give up trying to cook some things Japanese. Although, granted, the gyoza did come out pretty tasty.
I watched Capote last night with my mom and sister, and although I found the movie well made and interesting, I felt no sympathy towards the character himself. I sort of felt as though the man dug his own grave, and wasn't facing the fact that he now had to lie in it. I'm all for intense movies, but nevertheless, this was not my intense movie of choice. What was very awesome was that Harper Lee (author of "To Kill a Mockingbird") played a substantial role in the movie. (Incidently, "To Kill a Mockingbird" is one of my favorite books, and movies.) I counter-balanced Capote this evening while watching one of my most favorite movies ever, "Enchanted April". I don't think it is out on DVD yet, which is a pity, and sadly a lot of people don't know about this movie either (again, pity). But, it is just a beautiful, simple story of people coming together on the seaside; learning to love, and open up their hearts.
I bought some fabric to make a dress out of, so hopefully I can start that sometime tomorrow....
