It was cold last month. In December, not so much. My finals week was the most hectic I've ever had. No sleep. Hard tests. Projects and papers due all at once. It sucked. I ended up with 3 As and 2 Bs this semester. Slowly but surely I will get my GPA to a 3.5 to rectify the Cs of freshman year.
I'm reapply to the Global Perspectives Office for the Spring and I feel as if I am much more prepared this time around. If I don't get it this time I will definitely get it for the coming Fall. It is hard to find work in the field I am interested in because it is very sparse and unless you stand out you're not going to get shit. I can't just walk up with a piece of paper that says I'm certified in International Law like the Programming students can do with their C++ and Java. I have to prove my worth and it's difficult to do in a field where so many people are just as passionate as I am. I'm not going to let it get me down because I feel like I do have something to offer people. I know what I would like to do with my life ideally: become a prosecutor at the International Court of Justice. However, I will probably end up doing paperwork, field work, or mission work for anyone ranging from the ACLU, NOW, the State Department, a University, or whatever the case may be. I just do not want to end up in a line of work that has nothing to do with my studies.
I'm looking forward to next semester. Hopefully I will get this internship, a new job (I applied at the Office of Student Involvement to work for SGA and then I can quit Knightstop!), and some amazing courses. I will also be declaring my Women's Studies minor this semester. I have taken so many courses in it that it'd be stupid of me not to declare the minor. Speaking of which I spoke with my International Relations Theory professor just before the break began about what focus my studies will be taking and possibly my future work. On the spot it hit me where I would like to focus: justice for women in the Third World. It seems as if it is a perfect fit for the crossroads all of my studies are making. I just hope I will be able to do it.
My schedule next semester is as follows:
Tuesdays+Thursdays:
Human Rights Policy
Politics of Pan-Africanism
Contemporary Philosophy
*only tuesday night* Sexual Behaviors
Wednesday:
The State, Society, and the Individual
That course takes a look at how humanity has constructed governments, in what ways we control governments and how they control us, and the relationships it has all sparked.
With my long break I also get a chance to play WoW again!!
