Most of you who know me know that I am proud of things I make, things I do, awards I get, offices I accept, etc., etc., etc.. When I post such things, it is not meant as “bragging”, but my way of letting friends know what I am doing and achievements that I am accomplishing (especially for those who were not at a particular event or live out-of-Kingdom). This past weekend Cynagua Coronet was at a very lovely site; snow capped mountains in the distance (but close enough to see the trees), we had very lovely weather during the day, but COLD in the evening (with fog in the early mornings). Other than my A&S duties, I “thought” I would have a normal, uneventful event; but things are never as one thinks…. *S*
FRIDAY: We had a lovely view driving up the mountain (with slight rain off and on), beautiful, deep green pines covered the mountain sides; water trickling down the mountain sides over rock formations, some made small waterfalls; looking down the cliffs you could see the river, sometimes calm and mirror-like, other times moving swiftly over large boulders and making small waterfalls. We arrived, on site, around noon and were able to get a corner spot for the A&S sun shade. We did take our time setting up to enjoy the cool, crisp air, gentle breeze and the snow capped mountain tops in the distance.
SATURDAY: Still a leisurely, kick back day, as nothing major was happening until Sunday. I still held the A&S competitions today, so that the rest of the weekend could run smoothly. After the judging was over and awaiting Court so I could announce the winner, I was sitting under the sun shade working on patching a hole in my flannel (gasp!!) night dress (NOTE below), when Her Majesty Kaetiley and Duchess Eilis approached me; Her Majesty asked if I would consider being one of Her Court Artisans. I was honoured, surprised and excited to be asked this position (did I mention excited?). But, (trying to remember correct protocol) I asked her if I could give Her my answer after discussing this with Their Highness’ of Cynagua (being a Principality Officer. I felt that I should get Their approval first). She said yes, no hurry. He he he.. She does not know me well, does she? I immediately excused myself and headed across the Eric to Their Highness’ (if I had wings, I would have flew there). Of course They were pleased for me and gave me Their approval and blessings with great glee. Back across the Eric I flew, informing Her Majesty that I would be honoured to accept Her kind offer.
During evening Court, I was called up before Their Highness’ (now this was NOT as A&S Minister), so I am shocked to hear my name called. I was awarded The Order of the Melan Pteron Cynagua (This is given for excellence in the Arts and Sciences; the token is a black feather.)!!!!
Again, I was called into Court (this time as A&S Minister) and was able to announce Katherine Robinsen as the A&S winner for her lovely gold work book cover (and this was her first attempt at gold work). She well deserved it as it was a very lovely piece.
During Their Majesties Court, I was, again, called into Court; this time to receive the position as Queen’s Artisan!!
Being called into Court three times in one evening was very surprising for me. This weekend had turned out to be very memorable for me.
NOTE:
Now, after 9 years, I found 2 holes in the front of my flannel night dress and I did not want to “just patch” it, so I decided to embroider medium and large leaves to cover the holes (I wanted something that would look “nice” but yet would be quick & easy to complete). Well, 2 leaves just did not look right to me (yes, I know, it is just a large chemise style night dress, and flannel to boot, but it is comfortable, warm and has turned into my favorite piece to wear on cool evenings). I choose to add more leaves and vines; I am using left over green & gold/yellow wool yarns (in varying shades) so they will not all match, but will be effective for what I am doing. Right now I am just looking at a scoop around the front (from shoulder to shoulder) and partway down the center front. Not only am I camouflaging two holes, but am adding decoration. We shall see what it looks like when completed. *sigh*
SUNDAY:
The Coronet Tourney was interesting to watch; the Lord and Lady of the Swan are Laclan Bjornsson and Vigdis Hakonsdottir. Laclan's opponent in the finals was Sir Mari Alexander, fighting for Master Brocc of Alderden. This makes Sir Mari the first female member of the Order of the Black Swan and Master Brocc the first male member of the Order of the Swan's Heart.
During my afternoon “walk around the Eric”, chatting with friends, I was given, yet another surprise; I was asked to be on the Court of the new Lord & Lady of the Swan!! This time I turned around and asked told Her Majesty (as she was sitting right behind where I was standing) of the “new” request and asked Her if it would cause a problem (since I was already on Her Court). She said no problem and gave me Her blessings. A LOT for me to absorb from this weekend, but I will cherish it in my memories and love and enjoy every exciting moment in these up and coming months.
(Again, I am NOT bragging, but sharing my joy and enthusiasm with my friends.)
