While I think Heath Ledger did a fantastic job with the role, I'm not convinced he deserves the Oscar for playing the Joker. Since he recently died, it would come down to the question-- Would he have won it if he were alive to accept it?-- or are we putting the emphasis on the sensation of it all? Then again, I've been more annoyed with past winners solely on their talents (or lack thereof). I think anyone can say that he truly deserves the Oscar--the nom, yes-- but I wonder if he would want it that way. Would Heath Ledger want to let another worthy contender have the coveted statuette? If I'm remotely close to understanding his respect to acting, I don't think he would want it if he were to win it due to the hype and tragedy of his death.
