Progressive

So! I went home this past weekend to see my older brother who is back from Nepal. He was studying Sanskrit at a monastery, which is just like him. I had a fun time: on Friday, my mom, dad, brother, and I went to the baseball game and brought home a winner. Due largely to my personal contribution of believing in our players (and cheering so that they knew it).

I admit that when Jacobs Field started its new naming rights thing I was not a fan. (For those of you who don't know, the stadium was first named after the Jacobs brothers who then owned the team. The rights expired at the end of 2006 and were purchased this past January by Progressive Insurance Company, who will have it for the next 16 years.) I thought that "Progressive Field" was a stupid dumb new name and I wanted it to be the way it was before. But then I had an epiphany.

This new name could truly describe the spirit of our stadium - an oasis of enlightenment and forward thinking! If anyone in the ballpark made any kind of prejudiced remark, they would receive a sharp reprimand: "We don't allow that kind of talk around here! This is a Progressive Field."

And they would slink away, abashed.

Progressive Field in my head also features universal health care and recognizes same-sex marriages. So now I love the new name.
