I usually inspect my plants twice a day (to see if they need watering or if they've been dug up by squirrels/chipmunks hiding peanuts), and last week I discovered my viburnum (which has finally bloomed - yay!) has aphids. Ugh! So I went to my local nursery and bought some End All which I hope will literally "end" all the bugs. I hate using chemicals in my yard, but apparently these ones are hard to get rid of. Since my shrub (which was only planted last year) is doing really well otherwise, and is really healthy, I thought maybe it's best just to kill the damn bugs before they cause any damage to it. So I sprayed it yesterday and noticed this evening that there are a lot less aphids on the plant. I'll probably have to give it another application though, to get rid of them all.
On a happier note, I am really pleased that it has bloomed. Last year it grew some flower buds which never opened, and it never developed any berries. One of the prime reasons I chose this shrub is for the berries, which birds are supposed to love. Maybe this year it will develop some!
