Feeling a bit better

Nov 17, 2006 20:08

After posting in my journal yesterday, I went back to bed and slept until 2:00. (Thank you all for your kind comments!) When I got up, I still felt a little off-balance but much better.

Today I felt tired (couldn't fall asleep at my normal bedtime due to yesterday's nap) and about the same: not truly light-headed, but not quite right either. I went in to work, started feeling a bit worse, then decided to see if my doctor (conveniently located right across the street) had any openings in her schedule today. She did, so I went to see her. I described my symptoms, and she said she was 90% sure that I have labyrinthitis, which is an inflammation of the inner ear - specifically the labyrinth, a structure made up of the cochlea and three semi-circular canals. It is the semi-circular canals which are responsible for determining the position of the body in relation to its surroundings. It is also related to balance. Labyrinthitis can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, physical trauma to the head/ear, allergies. Symptoms may last for days or even weeks depending on the cause and severity. Symptoms may also come back after disappearing.

I'm happy to know that I don't have the plague. I guess I'm just going to have to take it easy for a bit.
