[ART] [sketchdump] mostly pen things

Apr 08, 2009 17:37

A while back I mentioned to someone that I ought to post drawies more frequently but fewer at a time, which I haven't actually done, to my shame. Clearly the solution is to draw more. So, let's have a few more things before I get into drawing stuff encouraged by the Bad Idea Dinosaur!

4; mythology (I should have a tag for that), Avatar (AU), Disney, Dreamworks; mildly nsfw for naked ladies )

avatar: the last airbender, boobs, art, sketchdump, movies

Love your Megs! You really captured her.

OKAY SO ON YOUR EVE AND LILITH HI I'M A DORK.

I like how rounded and bubbly Eve comes off as. The roundness is something that stands out to me because it seems to match the attitude that she was created with. For some reasin Lilith kinda looks like Azula to me, which is plenty fitting. I would suggest maybe rounding her slightly more, just because in the legends she was still the first woman and created with a specific purpose in mind (tl;dr: moar childbearing hips), but she looks so much more cruel and serious than her counterpart, and that is good.

ALSO THERE WILL BE ACTION FIGURE SHENANIGANS POSTED AT MY MIDNIGHT TONIGHT

Thank you. :3

*nodnod* I was wondering if I should round Lilith out more, considering. I do like the difference in her countenance otherwise, though - it suits her to look more wicked, as you said. I hadn't considered the Azula resemblance, ahahaha.

YAAAAY ACTION FIGURES 8D

:3 Were those sans reference? Because if so, damn.

Well you can always play with her design more, but I'm also probably infering a lot of my research and personal conceptions here onto the drawing. I have a bunch of the paintings related to her saved on my hard drive for reference. Hm. Have you seen the Lilith in the Lucifer series, by chance?

GRAM SENT ME AN EASTER BASKET AND IT ARRIVED TODAY FULL OF GOODIES. OH THE FUN THAT WAS HAD

Partially. It was an exercise in learning how to draw her so that I might play with translating her into my own style at some point, as well as for figuring out how to work with her in her native style for various purposes. The lower right one was done entirely without reference.

*nod* I went with personal ideas and little else - didn't look up art to refresh myself or the like beforehand. I continually find that to be an interesting exercise for mythological figures. (I have some concepts for paintings sitting around that I haven't checked for accuracy, etc.) Ooooooh. :D :D :D And no, I have not seen Lucifer's Lilith, alas.

OH MAN AWESOME. I APPROVE OF THIS HARDCORE.

Are you planning to adapt anyone else from the film in your style? Cos your Hades would be awesome, I bet.

I'd like to see more of Akemi's take on mythology, but that's because I'm a sucker for it. *Eyes up the Book of Enoch* Thesis, thesis, thesis. IM me sometime and I'll get them to you. She's pretty badass.

AND THERE IS SOKKA BEING SOKKA. BWAHAHAHA.

I'm thinking about it. Hades has got exactly the kinds of swishy lines + actual definition that I like. XD

Sweeeeet. Freya, Pele, Sif, and the Lorelei are percolating for paintings in my brain presently. I bet the Metatron would be fun to draw, though - a bunch of those angelic and demonic figures, actually. Oh man, the Book of Enoch! Angelic smackdown. (Did I ever mention to you that I got to go see the Dead Sea Scrolls in person?) 8D 8D 8D I will, definitely. I'll have to investigate.

OH SOKKA. IS THERE MEAT INVOLVED? I'M EXCITED.

Also he's just awesome.

I'm always happy to be a consult on these things, especially if you're getting into Judeo-Christian stuff. Also, if you wanna get general impressions of those things, check Gustav Davidson's Dictionary of Angels including the Fallen Angels. Pretty handy little reference and has a LOT of information. I <3 Enoch hardcore. (No you didn't and I hate you. Details, plz! I have like...three romantic paintings and that's about it. Yessss.

NO MEAT, JUST CHOCOLATE.

These are trufax. His hair is made of fire.

Eeeeeee! I'll totally hit you up, I love talking with people on mythology, and you would be fascinating to consult with given your theological bent. I'll definitely be looking into that text as well. Judeo-Christian stuff is interesting. (It was amaaaaazing. They were at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle a couple years ago. The exhibit had a bunch of other stuff about the area and culture before one got to the actual scrolls, which could only be exposed to so much light at a time. There were big projections in this dimmed area with translations of the text, and the bits of the scrolls themselves in heavy cases that lit up briefly so that people could look at them before they went dark again. I spent hours in there. I also bought a camel from the gift shop.) Hitting up will happen.

CHOCOLATE WORKS. CLOSE ENOUGH. OM NOM NOM. ...Sokka is exactly the kind of guy that would be into that bacon chocolate.

I'll be on until midnight my time tonight, cos I've got class and I get up at 8 AM on Tues and Thurs. And of course Judeo-Christian stuff is fascinating, there's a reason I spend so much time writing about it. Shit, have you seen Supernatural? It's been eating my brain and it's all urban mythology. So bad it's good kind of stuff. (afajf;a That's so cool oh my God. I'm jealllooous. Not surprised about the lighting on the cases, it's all a matter of preserving the paper it's on and that stuff is notoriously brittle. Text preservation is SO fascinating, man. ) Wheee!

YOU KNOW IT'S ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD!

Ahhh, okay. I'm not sure I'll be on in time to catch you, as I've got some work to do (and dinner to finish), but if not then I will probably tomorrow. Oh, you crazy theologian you. ♥ I have not actually seen it, for all that people talk about it. Aaah, urban mythology ftw. (It was astounding, seriously. One of the best Science Center trips I've ever taken. ♥ I should look for all the little flyer thingums I have floating around from it. Text preservation is neeeeat - they had a whole section on that, as I recall, especially since the scrolls were so abused before modern paper-preserving knowledge and technology. alsjhljasf tape residue.)

IS IT REALLY? I'VE NEVER TRIED IT.

I'll be around tomorrow. We've got Friday off too, so I'll be up late. And I am an awesome theologian. I can link you up to a site that has it if you're interested. I kinda like season 1 the most because it's more light hearted, but well, it's up to you. (YOU MAKE ME SO JEALOUS AUGH AUGH. And man if you wanna see the HORRORS of badly preserved texts go look at the Gospel of Judas. Oh maaaan.)

IT'S INTERESTING. ALSO SHENANIGANS HAVE BEEN POSTED BECAUSE ILU

Cool, cool. I'll be around and probably poking you to pick your brainmeats about your ideas. You ARE an awesome theologian. <3 I neglected to comment on your recently posted paper, I should do that. Eeeeee, cool. I'd be interested in checking it out - is it watching online or downloading? (IT WAS SO AMAZING. I should take pictures of my camel, ha ha. ...Morbid curiosity and apparent desire for pain drives me to look this up.

Well I have some coming up to post including possibly more on the Sandman paper (technically I STILL need to add two pages to it) and I've got one on Hildegard von Bingen coming up who is this crazy awesome nun. Online streaming. Four seasons. Forty minute episodes. HAVE FUN. Also even if you don't like it watch the first part of s4 episode 18 because it has a very long shoutout to fandom plus in character reactions to slash fanfic. (That sounds vaguely pervy. And basically this text was preserved for years in the desert, was taken out, sent all over the world, stored in a freezer, a saftey deposit box and a few other odd places before getting into the proper hands for this sort of thing and was crumbling apart. 20% was lost for good. There's an entire book about this and YEAH SEE HOW BAD IT IS?)

SERIOUSLY CHOCOALTE BACON IS MORE LIKE CHOCOLATE, OCCASIONALLY INTERUPTED BY BACON

*nodnodnod* I'll be looking forward to seeing those when you post them. :3 Yays! I foresee extra time spent bogarting a library computer in the near future. Also lol, when a series gives a shoutout to fandom. XD (It kinda does. And OH GOD. THE PAIN OF THAT. DO NOT WANT. OH GOD WHY. What a horrible fate for a text to suffer, especially one of such import.)

AHAHAHA COOL. I SHOULD TRY IT SOMETIME. IT'S NOT LIKE CHOCOLATE, PERMEATED ENTIRELY WITH BACONY FLAVOR? NOT WHAT I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED.

Also I don't need to link you up to the paintings, I posted them on my research blog a while ago! HAHA! I was lucky and my TA let me borrow the first three seasons on DVD. Oh research. And god that reaction makes me laugh because they find the incest fic. And Dean goes D: WELL THAT'S JUST SICK AND WRONG. (Seriously. And the amount of scholar wank over that missing 20% the text and what it implies is fucking insane. OH GOSPEL OF JUDAS.)

NO IT'S MORE LIKE YOU'RE NOMMING SOME CHOCOLATE AND THEN YOU GET A BACON BIT AND IT'S "OH HAY BACON" AND THEN WHEN IT'S GONE YOU GET BACK TO THE CHOCOLATE AND THERE'S A SLIGHT BACON AFTER TASTE.

Yay! Imma check those out right away. :3 I didn't even know you had a research blog, this is excellent. Ahahaha, that's awesome. OH RESEARCH. And XDDD! I look forward to it. (OH ACADEMIA. Academia is basically fandom, just formalized. I am so not surprised that scholars get wanky over the missing material.)

WHOA COOL. I'M VAGUELY REMINDED OF CHOCOLATE BARS WITH BITS OF ORANGE PEEL IN, WHEREIN ONE ENCOUNTERS CHEWY ORANGEY BITS BUT THEN GOES BACK TO THE CHOCOLATE.
