SO. It has been a busy few days!
I have a mixed bag of stuff to talk about.
Andrew brought over V for Vendetta, which I had not seen (I know, I know). I quite enjoyed it. Dystopian society, 1812 overture to explosions that didn't seem gratuitous, sekrit underground except not lairs, masked vigilantes, roses, crazy, bad guy cop d00des with an alternately scary and hilarous name, Natalie Portman, not child porn, major alliterative prowess, kickin' knife fighting, great political overtones, hidden letters, masked vigilantes in frilly pink flowery aprons, and Guy Fawkes costumes! What's not to love?
I really did like it a lot. I'm glad I got to see it. It also makes the
Movies in Fifteen Minutes version ten times as funny.
Also, mum and I went to the dollar store, where we purchased glowsticks (this becomes important later), those foam-creatures-in-dissolvable-gel-capsules, three stuffed clownfish in various colors with HILARIOUS expressions, and a stack of foam. Which is mine for a Sekrit Projekt. Also a birthday balloon. :D For dinner, we went to our favorite teriyaki place, which is indescribably fabulous.
We stopped by Grammie's beforehand, so she could give me Daniel Smith money. I also recieved a fabulous pair of socks with sled dogs on them (they're sticking out their tongues! XD).
Also also, Ryan gave me FFX-2. I am really enjoying it (more on that in a bit).
Daniel Smith trip on Saturday morning, zomg. :D :D :D
From that, I got:
~An 11"x14" canvas
~Backup sketchbook to hold in reserve for when the current one is filled up
~New conte (sanguine is love~)
~Paint (new tube of black, tube of cobalt green deep)
~White and red inks (the flame red? is hot ass)
~Micron pen (.005)
~Shiny new long-handled filbert brush (the Obligatory Brush - this'll be good for painting scales on the piece I have planned for the wall above the computer)
~Five new Copics - a darkish rosey pink, a couple of oranges of various shades, a flesh tone somewhere between 'skin white' and the darker suntanned color, both of which I already have, and leather, which is a lovely rich brown. You may be able to see where this is going (if you take into account the reds, blue, black, green, and pink I already have).
Afterward, I had a bit of money left (shocking and appalling - I should have gotten more markers, or possibly more canvases), which I spent at Borders (which is of course where we went after lunch - mmm Marlene's (our localish health food store of awesome - such fabulous salads. we also shared a slice of pumpkin pie). Claymore 3, RsoM 6 (I got this because of
sjen's entry in it, which is entirely too awesome), and a book-book.
Andrew called, so we stopped our shopping and went home. He presented me with a gift - an enormous colorful kite. I thought it was very thoughtful considering some of our recent conversations. (He didn't expect it to be quite so big, XD) He and I played some Katamari, and went to the dollar store (he didn't know it was there, and wanted glowsticks). Glowsticks (and some Reeses product or other) acquired, we came back to my house. I stayed here whilst he went to a movie with his family.
Later on, he came back to pick me up for a prearranged FLCL watching. His mom made me birthday brownies (!!), which were very tasty. We went out to the backyard and glowsticked like mad. When she put the brownies in the oven, we tore inside to clean out the bowl. They were watching some extreme motorcycling competition or other, which made me drowsy. FLCL started pretty late. Unfortunately I fell asleep after a few episodes. XD Fortunately, Andrew was recording them, so's we can watch them all back to back later. I was reminded that I want to be Haruko when I grow up.
Came home, deposited glowsticks beside the computer, went to bed. Some of them are still glowing now. In all, a really lovely day.
So, the loot haul spoils booty thus far includes:
~That which I listed in the Daniel Smith stuff above
~The books and manga listed above
~The dollar store stuff
~Browniiiies
~Pair o' socks
~Many wonderful birthday wishes
~Big kite
~Couple of cards (including one from my bank. o_O They wrote with colorful highlighters.)
~Tasty meals - teriyaki, salad
~Final Fantasy X-2
Dead Man's Chest:
ORGYTASTIC
Can anyone say OT3? Oh yes we can.
(Now I can go read
alita_b_angel's back-recs! And look at that dice game meta!)
To paraphrase
karose, the writers must really love your character, Elizabeth.
Many things I would like to say, but they have all flown out of my head at the moment. Perhaps later. It's very much a second movie. I reeeeeally liked how Davy Jones played the organ with his tentacles, and the subsequent inclusion of organ music in the score. But then. I'm a total sucker for organ music.
And I cannot escape keys and hearts for a moment, can I. XD
Also, kraken.
Phew. Okay. Time for some random stuff.
- I am desperately amused that this week's
Illofriday promt is 'capture'. Tee hee hee *perv*
- It occurred to me earlier that Nightwish's 'Dead Boy's Poem' is very much a Nobody song. (
lyrics) Some lines are extremely Xemnas. Others are not.
- FFX-2 is proving to be a lot of fun. It has a rather superior battle system, and hot damn, the sparkly transformation sequences. Gippal's VA is very impressive - he makes Al Bhed sound like a language, and also like verbal, linguistic sex. Mmm.
- Out of context quote: “I also saw that game...what is it, Cirge of Derberus?” - Ken
- The next couple of days shall be 'watch Akemi scramble to catch up with comments' day(s).
