Mi Ho was a rebellious nine tailed fox who centuries ago wished to become a real human. Using her powers she took on human form during Korea's Joseon dynasty (1392-1897). Due to her supernatural heritage her human form was incredibly beautiful, leading many men to become infatuated with her. Wherever Mi Ho passed her beauty caused men to lapse in their work leaving scholarly studies abandoned, farms untended, trading not conducted and government work abandoned. The local women of the time grew deeply resentful and feared the fox would take away their husbands as well as bring about the upset of society for lack of men doing their jobs. The women gathered in temples and prayed to Three Gods Grandmother, the goddess Mi Ho was a follower of, for a solution.
Three Gods Grandmother was caught between wanting to let Mi Ho live as a human and the pleas of the local women for help. She ultimately decided that finding Mi Ho a husband would allow her to live as a human and assuage the worries of the local women. However none of the women wished to give up their husbands, sons or brothers to be the fox's husband. Quickly the women began to spread rumours saying that the nine tailed fox would eat the liver of any man who became close to her in order to make herself human.
Mi Ho was left waiting in her bridal clothes for a year and a half before her loneliness and grief slowly caused her to shift back into her fox form. It was then [the year 1510] that Three Gods Grandmother chose to cut off Mi Ho's tails (the source of her power) and trap her in an ink painting so she could not re-enter the human world, causing herself and the humans such trouble again.

500 years later, a university student named Dae Woong encounters the temple where the scroll depicting Mi Ho and Three Gods Grandmother has been safely kept. In an attempt to get cell phone reception he ends up just outside the small building housing the scroll. His phone's batteries die, yet he is still speaking with someone. Mi Ho is using the phone to communicate with Dae Woong from the celestial realm. She frightens him into entering the temple and drawing her missing nine tails. As soon as Dae Woong is done, the wind picks up and a thunderstorm strikes the area. In a panic, Dae Woong flees the temple grounds and ends up crashing through the wilderness only to fall down a steep cliff, leaving him badly injured. The newly released Mi Ho catches up to him and decides that since he freed her, she will not let him die. She transfers her special 'fox bead,' a concentrated source of her power, to Dae Woong so that he will heal quickly.

He eventually wakes up and makes his way back to society, all the while followed but what he believes is an 'insane' girl who was sent to the temple by an overbearing grandmother. Mi Ho is honest about what she is and asks to go with Dae Woong; though he will hear nothing of it and belittles her for saying she is a gumiho (nine tailed fox). Upset, Mi Ho vows that Dae Woong will be dead next time they meet. He eventually makes it back home, only to encounter Mi Ho later that night. She was able to track him using his scent. She then takes back her bead and watches as death comes for Dae Woong. She remembers when they were in the forest earlier and how Dae Woong at one point came back for her after a dangerous wild boar started chasing them. Since he returned once, she would too and Mi Ho gives him back the bead.

From there they forge a unique relationship. Mi Ho will live with Dae Woong so long as he has the bead, as if he mixes his chi with another woman's (via kissing or more) the bead will be damaged. A risk Mi Ho is not willing to take. Dae Woong will have to tolerate her if he wishes to keep the bead, that and Mi Ho keeps threatening to eat him if he disobeys her (mostly an empty one it is later discovered, as she much prefers beef). They have their share of ups and downs as they adjust to living with each other until Dae Woong comes home drunk one night . He asks Mi Ho to leave him. He has been struggling with people believing she is his girlfriend while he has a crush on a senior at his university. He had been attemoting to woo the crush but Mi Ho's presence makes the other girl believe Dae Woong is taken. Mi Ho sadly takes his words to heart, collects her bead from the now healed Dae Woong and leaves.
She then encounters Dong Ju, a man who is not entirely human himself. He knows Mi Ho is a nine tailed fox after encountering her earlier when she and Dae Woong were at a supermarket. He has in fact been trailing her ever since she escaped the painting, believing at first he needed to kill her. He changed his mind after he saw her resemblance to a long dead lover.
Dong Ju offers his help to make Mi Ho human, since she wants to live in the mortal world rather than return to the heavens. If she can find someone to take care of her fox bead for 100 days and drinks Dong Ju’s blood (one of the few things that can kill her) she can become human or she can simply take her bead and return to heaven. He conveniently leaves out that the person who holds the bead will die in Mi Ho's place after the 100 days are over, a fact that would likely have changed Mi Ho's mind as she is fond of Dae Woong.

Mi Ho must now choose between a small glass bottle containing Dong Ju's blood and the ornate blue bottle that holds her bead.

She leaves Dong Ju's to return to Dae Woong's and see if he will help her, and it is about this time she is whisked away to Splendor.

Personality:

Mi Ho's personality is something of an enigma for those familiar with the traditional stories of nine tailed foxes. She is not the sexual, predatory 'gumiho' who eats livers and leaves trails of dead men in her wake. For the most part she is largely the opposite.

Having no real experience with the human world Mi Ho lacks more than a few boundaries and ideas of how society works. Though she is a quick learner and comes to grasp how to use technology such as a kitchen stove or the city bus her imprisonment in the scroll has left her personal interactions a bit off.
She has no problem with public displays of affection or speaking loud enough for those outside her conversation to hear even when it is an 'embarrassing' topic. Her age also alienates her from normal Korean society as she speaks casually to most everyone, even if they are elderly and usually receive the utmost respect from young people. She doesn't necessarily mean ill-will but part of her is a bit conceited about her actual age and she does feel it's below her to have to speak politely to elders.

Aside from handling herself a little oddly in conversation, Mi Ho is at times blind to the workings of the real world which can make her seem selfish. She shows little appreciation for the money Dae Woong will spend to buy her the best beef and constantly asks him to either bring her beef or take her out to eat. Her behaviour at times is quite clingy and she has no qualms about literally grabbing onto someone. This is perhaps in part to her being so utterly out of her element on the modern world.
The few friends she can cultivate she keeps near and dear. Her loyalty is quite strong to those she cares about. Mi Ho is diligent in returning favours and does her best to quietly aid her friends once she learns about the hardships they endure for her. On the flip side this makes her an easy target for manipulation. Work your way into her heart and you'll find a powerful ally ready to help you at a moment's notice, even if your motivations are far from honest.

However, if she discovers the deceit, she is not above using violence. After going with Dae Woong to try and get some money from the friends he always treated and discovering they all lied when they said they were broke Mi Ho was quite upset. When some of the young men from before approached her as she waited for Dae Woong, Mi Ho took her revenge, "passing" the basketball they had dropped with such force it gave the leader a bloody nose and leaving him unconscious.

The only other method to make her mad is to see the chi of her bead being mixed with the chi of another woman. Should such an incident occur, Mi Ho will lose control of herself, her body telling her to kill the source of the threat by any means necessary. It is one thing to be on her bad side, it is another to harm her bead. She can be snapped out of the blind rage by close contact with someone she cares for, but it's a risky business to try and interfere with her revenge.

In part due to her lack of interaction with people Mi Ho never learned to be dishonest. She's certainly capable of keeping information from people but she doesn't lie. Her interactions are not laced with mal-intent towards others either. She will give her honest opinion of topics when asked. At times her thoughts can certainly seem insulting, such as when she compared the colours of roommate Dae Woong's shirts to cows, pigs and chickens as they were brown, pink and yellow. She has little regard too for the reactions she provokes in others. Mi Ho is quite oblivious to sarcasm, passive-aggressive tactics and the reactions of jealous people.
Emotions have to be very blatantly displayed before she truly "gets" that another person feels a certain way about her. When Mi Ho's jealousy is triggered she more often than not slips into making threats and acting otherworldly to scare off the interloper. A small bit of power abuse never really hurt anyone anyways.

While she can be oblivious to much of the world, given enough time to observe Mi Ho is capable of picking up and adapting herself to society's standards. Though child-like in her interpretations of behaviour, she does aim to please those she cares about, even if the road to being the perfect human is far from easy.

Her metaphors for what is 'good' often relate to meat. As a fox she is primarily carnivorous and though she can eat vegetables, she hates them with a passion. Give her a good plate of top quality beef any day and she will be 'happier than a clam' and one might just become 'the number one best beef in Korea' or in other words, her best friend.

Extra:
Character Abilities: Thanks to being a supernatural fox, Mi Ho has an excellent sense of hearing and smell. She is easily able to lift heavy objects and 'fly' though it is really more her soaring after jumping up. Her abilities are reduced when she does not posses her fox bead. Not to the point she endures pain like a human but enough to hinder her tracking abilities. She retains the skills she learned during her first stint with humanity such as traditional Korean dance, orchid care and flute playing but lacks more modern skills (though she has learned to cook beef).
Possessions: A small rounded glass bottle containing a red liquid and a slighty larger frosted blue glass one with gold embellishments. The blue bottle emits a faint glow.
Anything else: Origin behind the Korean term for a sunshower being 'fox rain' as it is said that when the nine tailed fox cried on a clear day, it would rain.
She also has a phobia of large bodies of water as they dampen her innate magic, especially when she does not posess her bead. If she is near one without her bead she has an anxiety attack. If she is trapped near water for long enough she may even begin to shift back into her fox form.

[The alley way is dark and only dimly illuminated by the streetlights on the main road. The sound of cans hitting the ground and plastic bags rustling can be heard. From behind a heap of garbage bags, pieces of trash and empty soda cans are being flung about. A sing-song voice suddenly pipes up.]

Chiiicken, chiiicken, you are second best~

[The voice, a female one, pauses for a moment and a gleeful cry breaks the relative quiet of the evening. A young woman suddenly stands from behind the garbage cans, her white summer dress limp with two days worth of grime and garbage residue.]

I found you, number eight! For Dae Woong-ah, I will find all the coupons tonight!

[A grin breaks across her face and in her hand she holds a small circular coupon. In Korean letters it notes that by collecting ten coupons you are able to get a free chicken meal from the restaurant Mama's Chicken Grill. The girl spins on the spot for a moment in a happy dance, dark hair swining about her. Dae Woong will be so pleased! She's finally contributing to their meals. Now if she could just find two more coupons. Surely there were some more fried chicken boxes in all these bags. She'd just have to smell them out. A look of fiery determination crosses her face as she tucks the coupon into her pocket and resumes digging.]

Log/Prose sample:

Mi Ho did not mind the cold too much, her supernatural powers tended to mitigate the worst such temperature extremes. Still she could not help a shiver. It had been summer, or if not summer, at least pleasant. The sudden change just upon walking had taken her brain a few minutes to process. Was Three Gods Grandmother playing some sort of trick on her? But that couldn't exaclty be right either. The first place ahd looked enouhg like Seoul, but it hadn't really smelled like it. So she was somewhere. Just where this somewhere was she didn't know. She looked around the now snowy landscape. The white was broken up by the occasional cluster of trees and a little in the distance, mountains. Rubbing a hand along one arm Mi Ho contemplated what to do for a moment. Should she turn back and look for people in the warm place or continue on in the snow? She raised her head up and inhaled deeply. She could just make out the faintest scent of fire. Fire! There had to be humans around here somewhere then. She took a step forward only to have her foot sink into snow. The beige flats she wore did little to protect her.  Sighing, Mi Ho forged on, slowly gettting up to a run and then pushing as best she could against the fround to get up in the air. Soaring jumps would at least keep her a little more dry, and a bit warmer. Though she could not get very high with each jump, it kept her off the ground. As she made her way towards the fire smell she couldn't help musing out loud to herself, her words whipped away in each gust of wind jumping caused.

"Is this still the human world still? Where is Dae Woong, and Seoul. Is Grandmother playing a trick on me for escaping?"

The last thought caused a frown to crease her brow. What if it had been a plot by Grandmother to get her to go back to the celestial realm? Everything had seemed relatively normal once she returned to the apartment. Dae Woong wasn't home yet and hse had decided to wait up on the deck for him. There had been a beautiful box resting on the little platform she and Dae Woong usually sat on. Had he bought her a gift? In her excitement Mi Ho had opened it without a second thought. A soft melody played and the next thing she knew she had arrived at an opulent hall with some funny little device in her hand and a necklace with a key dangling from it. She had ambled her way out of the building but had found no other people. There were strange, sort-of people but she didn't trust the smell of them or was it a lack of smell, she wasn't really sure but wither way they put her on edge. That had started her wandering and now she was here in the snowy place.

She focused on the smells in the wind again. The scent of fire was definitely stronger now! It wasn't long before she saw trails of smoke rising up into the daylit sky. A few more leaps brough her to the edge of a human settlement. Funny looking houses made from trees were neatly arranged in rows, smoke rising up from most of their chimneys.

A smile broke out across her face as she approached the door of one of the cabins, a neat symbol painted on the front, though she didn't quite recognize it (it was the Arabic-style '4'). Mi Ho was about to just step in but quickly reprimanded herself. She didn't know these people yet. She raised up one hand, and using her fingers tapped on the front door.

"Hello, are you home?"
