You know how it's so convenient that there's a label for discriminationg against gender, race, financial status and others, eg., sexism, racism, classism and ect?
Well, there are two other types of discrimination that aren't conveniently labeled. One is discrimination against sexual orientation, and that's quickly gaining support and awareness.
But how about another one that no one really notices or takes the time to defend, like discrimination against mental or physical abilities? I'm talking about the physically and mentally retarded here.
Nowadays, I occasionally hear someone give a verbal abusing if they hear someone say, "man, that's gay". But did you ever think of all the times we hear the word "retarded" being used as a substitute for "stupid"? Mental and physical retardation isn't uncommon here, and yet we hear that term thrown around just as much if not more than the term "gay". And no one does anything about it.
It makes me sad.
