Brad Paisley recently released his new song "River Bank". Every time I hear one of his new songs it takes me back to my first experience with Brad...
One day in the early 2000's my mom came to me asking for help to find a song. She heard a small snippet of this country tune on an afternoon talk show. She couldn't remember the artist but the song was about fishing and they only lyric she could remember was "I'm gonna miss her." I was on the case! I went to a music store because back then that's where you went to research music and started digging through CDs. I finally found Brad Paisley's Part II album with Track 2 titled
"I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)", so I took a chance and bought the album. When I got the CD home and played it for mom, that was the song she was looking for.
Brad's witty lyrics and excellent musicianship made us instant fans and kept us wanting more songs. Each album brought us smiles, laughs and tears. Mom always smiled big and laughed when "I'm Gonna Miss Her" hit the first chorus. My love of Brad Paisley will forever be linked to my mom.
The first time my mom and I saw Brad in concert we had such a
great time. I'll never forget when he performed
Ode de Toilet. We laughed so hard!!
When mom was receiving her chemo treatments, she met a nice couple who happened to live next door to Brad Paisley's parents. One day, they presented my mom with an autographed picture of Brad. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it meant a whole lot to her and to me, even to this day.
We went to see Brad one last time together in the summer of 2006. Mom was struggling with her ovarian cancer, but we still ventured out to Burgettstown to see Brad on his Time Well Wasted tour. Our experience was hindered by the obnoxious people with the seats in front of us. Eventually we relocated so that mom could enjoy the rest of the show.
Someday I hope I get the chance to thank Brad for that picture and his music that meant so much to my mom... and to me. Thank you Brad Paisley and keep on making great music.
