As I've said before I like my therapist. Since I started seeing her, she's suggested two books for me to read.

The first was The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, A Toltec Wisdom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz. This was a most excellent book to read. Simple truths that I already know presented in a logical format. I felt energized ( Read more... )

[unpause eternal rant]

Public high school is a load of bullshit. I made a promise to myself that if I ever have children, they will either never go to a public school, or they will be removed the moment I get so much as a hint of bullying. Schools and government have learned nothing from incidents like the Columbine shootings. They all want to blame guns, psychotropic prescription drugs, video games, neo-nazis, or bad attitudes. They NEVER want to consider the fact that maybe the schools and the parents themselves fucked up. Never have I been more offended than when they did some crap memorial special about one of the girls killed at Columbine who was known to be one of the biggest perpetrators in verbally bullying the shooters. She was targeted for a reason.

I actually had to leave my high school for a year when the bullying just got to be too much. Luckily my parents were in a financial situation that they were able to do that for me. Not everyone is so fortunate. Without that 1 year break I know for certain that I would not be where I am today. The constant stress made concentrating on school work damn near impossible. If I ever receive an invitation for a class reunion, I will joyfully light it on fire. I don't even want to flaunt my success. I just don't want to see them or hear from them again, ever. In one of the most influential periods of my mental and social development, they left me with scars that have forever altered my ability to engage in and enjoy normal social activity. I am pretty much uncomfortable in any social group exceeding 4 people (including me).

Seriously, I could go on for pages and pages of anger. Usually though, it seems best for me to just set it all aside and not worry about it, no matter how much it pisses me off.
