Indiana!

(I haven't written in this for 77 weeks. wow. well, I made a promise to myself to write for at least 20 minutes every day in some form, so livejournal entries now count for that.)

So I went to visit EJ in Indiana on Monday! I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to go, since he decided not to ask his mom until Saturday if I could visit that week - not like I hadn't been asking him for two weeks or anything. Especially since I'd never been to the state fair and who knows if I'll get the chance to go down there during state fair time again. I may have had to walk two miles in flip-flops to the Jefferson Park blue line stop from my friend's house on Sunday after he finally said "okay, Mon-Wed works" but still! I got to go and that's all that counts.

Monday was pretty relaxing - I got in at 3:30 and we went swimming in his mom's pool. We played pool basketball, which I'm terrible at, and then he threw me around a whole bunch in the water. We were thinking of going to the fair at 6 or 7, but they didn't list any hours on their site. The closest we could find was a stop on the fair train, which arrived at 11...meaning the fair was probably open until midnight, right? Nope. We watched Aladdin, left for the fair, and got turned away at every parking lot by people saying "sorry, they closed at 9." Left with nothing to do (and really hungry besides,) we went to this excellent Cajun place - closed - mulled over our options, and ended up eating a huge bucket of mussels at Brugge at 10:30. Hooray for places being open!

Tuesday EJ and his brother held the kegger at their pool they'd meant to hold on Monday and moved because it was supposed to rain. (which it didn't, either day.) They got a classy keg of Blue Moon, so we each had a cup, played beer pong, then went back to Yats for a gigantic lunch. I suck at beer pong, and drinking warm Blue Moon in that setting tastes like drinking vomit. Never again, ugh. With my stomach feeling like I'd just eaten a bunch of delicious spicy rocks, we went back to have some tasty beer, swim, and hang out with EJ&Evan's friends. As well as a bunch of guys from Evan's frat.
But we did get to go to the fair! Major tactical error in having such a huge lunch, though. I went to Indiana with one goal: wallow in deep-fried happiness. Which I did anyway, but I didn't eat nearly as many ridiculous things as I'd hoped to. I did eat: a deep-fried Milky Way, a deep-fried Oreo, half a deep-fried Reese's, a deep-fried Pepsi Burst thing, some foul chocolate-covered bacon, taffy, a candy apple, some cheese sandwich, part of a disappointing milkshake, and that's it. I had WANTED to eat a deep-fried Twinkie, some deep-fried pizza, and other things, but my stomach wouldn't allow it. Stupid body, looking out for its own good.

Wednesday EJ had a beer for breakfast because the keg hadn't been killed, and I played a little Fallout while waiting for his dad to get out of work. We went for a really nice little bike ride and then went waterskiing! Which I was terrified of at first, especially since everyone else went wakeboarding and their falls looked incredibly dramatic. But I got in the water anyway, and after two tries I got myself up! Apparently this is a big deal? They said it's usually tough to get up the first time you do it. It was awesome - as my dad said, "oh man, waterskiing is a blast." Even though most of my muscles are really sore right now, I want to go back out and do it. Too bad it's totally not feasible ever again unless we're at his dad's house D:
And then the trip back home from hell - a Greyhound, most of which spent next to a big woman with a kid on her lap. An hour stuck in traffic, much of which we spent literally parked on 65. That traffic making me miss my 9:50 train (we arrived at 9:43,) meaning I had to walk to a different station and take a train at 11:05 to get home at midnight. this means I spent seven and a half hours sitting down, being taken somewhere. I am never taking the Greyhound to Indy again.
