Okay, so here's my (very generalized) plan for the next few years:
*I will finish the master's in one year at Penn.
*I am going to apply for a Ph.D. program at various schools, including Penn but probably aiming for somewhere else.
*I will get in, kick academic ass, rule the world.
All steps should be within my power :)
I had originally wanted to try to get into the Penn Ph.D. program, but I spoke with my advisor (a wonderful woman who is absolutely FANTASTIC as an advisor) and she pointed out that Penn doesn't have the appropriate faculty to handle a dissertation in my area very well. She also said that I had the ability to do a Ph.D., so really she could have told me that every school in the nation had just gone broke due to the recession and I would have quietly sat there attempting to restrain a happy-dance, but she went on to make various suggestions about good schools (Yale, Cornell, Harvard and a few others), and she even offered to look over my application essay! This makes me feel so relieved... I had no idea whether I was taking the right approach with applications the first time around, or what the admissions committees were looking for, and knowing that if I majorly screw up the essay Prof. K- will point it out to me is such a weight off my back.
