Siiiick + A new old obsession

Aug 18, 2008 22:16

I've been sick for a week now, so I haven't been around much, boooooo. My Codral Day+Night pack runs out today and I'm still blowing my nose every couple minutes, ugh :/ On the plus side I've been sleeping a lot, and watching TV a lot.

Which brings me to the new-old obsession. I blame Channel 10 and WookieeWikipedia. I caught Revenge of the Sith 2 Saturdays ago, and with getting sick not long after and feeling the need to vegetate myself, decided to rewatch Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones several times each during the week. I also reinstalled LEGO Star Wars, which I haven't played since late last year....man, I do love that game~ So silly and cute, yet so surprisingly fun! Of course, with all the Channel 10 watching I've done the last two weeks (I do love me some 'So You Think You Can Dance'...) I could also hardly miss the ads for The Clone Wars. At first I was all "WTF is this??" But thanks to Wikipedia, it aaaaall makes sense. And I think I got sucked into the crazy that is the SW Expanded Universe. Whoops! I downloaded the 25 Clone Wars shorts made in 2003 and finished watching the last of them today. It took a bit to get used to the style, but I think I quite like them. The Anakin irritates me, but otherwise the stories are interesting and give a bit more to fill in the gaps between Eps II and III, which was nice~

To be honest, Star Wars was one of the main things that put me on the path to a love of Sci-Fi and as a result an interest in pursuing a career in Aerospace, so I guess it's not surprising my interest would swing back to it. Only now I want to know more. I want to know about the Knights of the Old Republic 5000 years before, I want to know about the origins of characters like Sidious and Maul, I want to know more about Qui-Gon, I want to know more about these side-characters that seem awesome but get little airplay in the movies (Aayla Secura, Quinlan Vos, General Grievous, to name a few). I kind of hesitate to venture into post-Return of the Jedi, because I don't like some of what I've read about it...but some of it comes highly recommended, so we'll see how long this renewed fascination lasts. I had no idea that this whole world of (mostly official and canonical) further comics and novels even existed! I thought all the Star Wars books I'd seen at book stores were just the movie-versions, and so ignored them. Silly me! I hear some of them are rather good (though, there are of course, duds), so I'll be investigating the EU comic and novel scene further, I think! A-Also, the soon-to-be-released The Force Unleashed game/comic/book thing looks iiiiinteresting

Hmm~ So! Any other Melbournians wanna go see The Clone Wars with me? It may not be the best movie out atm, but I still do want to see it...
