War of the Green Lanterns catch-up post, go!
Spoilers and Yellow-green Lanterns below
Green Lantern #64: Part 1 of the War of the Green Lanterns. That was a very effective way to sideline the other Corps and put the focus solely on the GLs. Johns has made another excellent antihero whose message I agree with, but not his actions.
Green Lantern Corps #58: Part 2. I hate that Bedard's words are tied to Kirkham's pencils. He's really the weak link in the team for this miniseries. His work is clear, so it's not that I'm confused in the middle of the action. I just hate his style. It's so 90s. The less said about his Soranik, the better.
Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #8: Part 3. One annoying thing about crossing over across three books is that the writers had to explain the set-up 3 separate times and loyal readers of the cross-over have to read the set-up 3 separate times. Tomasi does a fairly good job of getting though it very quickly to get us to the action.
My favorite thing about the fight between Hal and Guy is that both of them are right. Each one is kinda a dick and has a face-punching coming to him.
Green Lantern #65: Part 4. D'awww. Post-coitalfight male bonding. Guy getting freaked out by Hal in full pilot mode was classic.
I have no problem with hope ring'd Kyle (especially since Part 5 fully explains the decision), but dude's a lover all the way.
Green Lantern Corps #59: Part 5. I love that Ganthet's reaction to seeing everyone in different rings. First he chews everyone out for their decisions, then he rips Hal a new one for suggesting the plan. Excellent.
Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #9: Part 6. The evolution of everyone's skill level is impressive. Hal and Guy know what they are doing from past experience. John and Kyle are easing into it.
Hopeful Kyle is adorable. I love that John's Indigo staff is a gun. Great design choice.
"Ever try shooting compassion at someone?" I bet Jesus could do it.
War of the Green Lanterns (so far): Pleasantly surprised. I'm a bit evented out (I think I'll be sitting out most of Flashpoint), but this story doesn't feel big event-y. I think that's because they're sticking to the Green Lantern corner of the universe and not pulling in Batman and the rest. It's giving GLs time to interact with each other and grow as characters, which is very necessary. My one complaint would be that all the focus is on the Earth-born Lanterns. I understand the writers' choice, but I do miss the alien Lanterns having their time to shine.
This series feels like the Sinestro Corps War, which is a good thing.
