As I suppose you've all heard by now,
Joseph Biden has been elected by the College of Cardinals to be the next pope. I didn't know the old one died....What? Well, how else do you explain the media orgy over the past week. All that coverage for a vice presidential pick? I don't think so. I believe he'll be taking the name Pope Loquacious I or as the kiddies call him PoLo.
I have no problems with Biden. I had no problems with any of the VP picks that were being floated with the exception of Hillary. Biden is my Secretary of State in my government fantasy team, but I'll (wait for it) abide this. The VP's debate just got a hell of a lot more interesting.
Hillary and Bill are on my Supreme Court on my fantasy team. Can you image it? Both have legal backgrounds; it will give both a legacy and get them out of the way; and it will cause the right to have kittens.*
Everybody wins!
I switched the food in my bird feeder. I was attracting a lot of LBJs and the occasional chickadee which was cool and all, but the LBJs were eating a lot more food that I had budgeted for and they tended to poop a lot on my deck. Plus, the sunflower seed shells were making a mess of the ground below. Finally as cute as they are, you can see LBJs everywhere. That's why people call them LBJs--we don't care enough to identify exactly what type of sparrow they are.
I switched to a food which is full of nuts and promises to attract chickadees, nuthatches, jays, and other birds. And squirrels I figured. I set the feeder up for the squirrels as well as the birds. The for the first few days, there as very little activity. Food was missing, but I didn't see any animals or poop. Today I snuck a peek at the feeder from a spot on the stairs inside where I could, but not be seen. In two minutes I saw the following:
-Two sparrows with dark-tipped wings (the LBJs I had been seeing were light all over) taking turns pecking at the feeder then flying away.
-Two chickadees taking turning pecking at the feeder, then flying away.
-A nuthatch, hiding under the railing, waiting for the chickadees and the sparrows both to fly away before grabbing a beakfull and flying away.
-A cardinal, waiting for the nuthatch then doing the same thing.
I've managed to gather a diverse group of birds who prefer to eat and poop elsewhere rather than mobbing the feeder and pooping close by. This is perfect!
*Do semicolons work that way? Whatever.
