Hey! I was watching the weather channel and I just figured out where Sirius Black from Harry Potter got his name from.
I just learned that a constellation called CANIS MAJOR, or "greater dog", is currently visible until Aug. 11th. And of course Sirius is a dog Animagus.
It just so happens that the main star of constellation makes up the head of the dog, and is called Sirius.
And then black because he turns into a BLACK dog.
So that's where he got his name from! I sure most of fans already knew that but still, cool! Way to be creative JKR!
