BBC's Sherlock -- amazing

On one hand, I may have a new fandom. OTOH, I'm not sure I can see Sherlock in a romantic relationship -- he's just too...uninterested in any of that. I read some of the original stories after starting the BBC series, and the explanation about not allowing anything that would dull the lens (or whatever the exact wording was) -- it makes too much sense for me to see Sherlock paired with anyone. (Although we know (or probably know) that he was sleeping with Janine after the wedding and before he broke into Magnussen's office. So he may not be the virgin Irene Adler thinks he is, but we know he didn't mean any of it, so he's still emotionally? virginal, sort of.)

But I really want someone to write me Sherlock/Lestrade and still keep it in character. Lestrade realizes that Sherlock has changed since John Watson came into his life, and while he's heartbroken that Sherlock is in love with John, he loves Sherlock enough to be happy for him. THEN at the wedding, he realizes that Sherlock isn't in love with John, that there's no hidden bitterness or jealousy, and he might have a chance after all.

But how do you write that and come up with an optimistic ending AND keep Sherlock his usual disinterested self?
