Character Name: Hibari Kyouya (Ten years later)
Series:
Katekyo Hitman RebornPoint in canon: Chapter 205, during the fight with Genkishi. Right now he’s about 26.
Character Background: So far, nothing is known about Hibari’s background except that he has an oddly intense love for Namimori Middle. His actual age and grade are unknown, as he tells Tsuna (protagonist and future boss) that he merely chooses whatever grade he feels like. When Hibari is first introduced, we learn he is notorious: he’s the super-strict head of the Disciplinary Committee and casually beats the shit out of students who break the rules. He does, however, seem to care deeply about maintaining order at Namimori. Tsuna and crew first encounter him when they try to use the reception room as their home base. Hibari already has it claimed and easily beats all three up until Reborn hits Tsuna with the Dying Will Bullet. Tsuna manages to give Hibari a knock on the head, but Reborn distracts him before he can retaliate. Hibari is impressed with Reborn’s strength, and remains fascinated with him for the rest of the series.
-pole knocking battle
-hospital fight.
The next major encounter with Hibari is a battle over a sakura viewing spot. Again, Hibari easily defeats Gokudera and Yamamoto, but during his fight with Tsuna the Sakura Disorientation disease (Sakura-Kura, which will cause a person not to be able to stand near sakura) that Dr. Shamal had infected him with earlier takes effect and Hibari’s knees hit the ground, loosing him the match.
-Summer Festival; Hibari and Vongola boys fight together for the first time.
Namimori students suddenly start showing up beaten and missing teeth. Hibari stalks off to investigate and comes across Rokudou Mukuro, a convict escaped from a super-secure mafia prison. Mukuro defeats Hibari using his weakness against sakura, and takes Hibari hostage. Tsuna and co. eventually figure out Mukuro is trying to lure Tsuna out because he’s the 10th Vongola boss, and go after him on orders from the 9th boss. During the fighting, Gokudera collapses, defeated, but hears the Namimori school anthem and manages to determine Hibari’s location and to free him (the anthem was chirped by one of the small birds that Rokudou’s lackey Birds used for surveillance. Hibari managed to tame it and taught it the school anthem). Freed, Hibari defeats Mukuro’s top subordinates, Chikusa and Ken, and goes to fight Mukuro himself. Despite several of his bones being broken he manages to deal a staggering blow to Mukuro before collapsing. Tsuna picks up the fight and manages to beat Mukuro.
When the battle with the Varia for Vongola rings starts, Hibari is chosen to be the cloud guardian, “The floating cloud that will not be caught by anyone and goes its own way”. Hibari is completely uninterested in being a part of the Vongola family, but agrees to undergo training with Dino so he can fight him. Dino makes a bet with him: If Hibari looses to him in a real fight then he must join Tsuna’s family. Hibari evidently looses, as he shows up to fight the Cloud guardian battle against Gola Mosca. He knocks out Mosca in one hit and goes straight for the Varia’s boss, Xanxus. He actually fares amazingly well until Gola Mosca goes batshit insane and starts shooting up the place, and Tsuna steps in. Surprisingly, Hibari doesn’t protest, saying that he wants to see Tsuna’s true strength drawn out. During the resultant battle all of the guardians, Varia and Vongola alike, are poisoned and must be cured by their boss using their ring. Hibari manages to get his own ring DESPITE the ‘Death Hitter’ poison’, which is supposed to be able to stop an elephant in its tracks. He cures Gokudera and then engages Belphegor, who manages to wound him before running away. Hibari then cures Yamamoto, and tells him that the only reason he saved him and Gokudera is that he doesn’t want them dying on school grounds.
Tsuna defeats Xanxus, and the Ten Years Later arc starts; Hibari next appearance is his ten-years-later form. He saves Yamamoto and Gokudera from being killed by the Millefiore captain Gamma, though ‘saves’ is a little too altruistic - Hibari states that the only reason he interfered was because Gamma was defiling the discipline of Namimori ground.
It turns out Hibari has been traveling the world in the name of the Foundation, a group made of old Namimori disciplinary committee members, in order to learn about the box weapons that have recently appeared. He stays to train Tsuna for the upcoming raid on the Millefiore base, and participates in it himself - after staying back for a bit and fighting the 200 or so people who try to invade the Vongola hideout. He shows up just in time to save Yamamoto from being killed by Genkishi and engages the illusionist in a fight.
[SPOILERS for recent chapters}Partway through the battle, Hibari switches with his younger self, who has the Vongola ring of Cloud. Later, it is learned that TYL!Hibari planned the entire younger-versions-coming-into-the future thing with TYL!Tsuna and TYL!Shouichi in order to defeat Byakuran. [/spoilers]
Ten-years-later Hibari is considered the strongest of the Vongola guardians and due to the combination of his ridiculous strength, insane amount of will power, and intelligence, is still pretty much the most terrifying thing ever. He is a little mellower now, and certainly more family-oriented. Like a proper Cloud Guardian he is always there when the family needs him, though he is fiercely independent and hates crowds. He is a straight-forward and brutally honest person; he doesn’t mince words or follow anyone’s rules but his own (and he does HAVE rules, they’re just… highly personalized.). But even though Hibari is a very violent person, he loves order and tranquility, and seems to get along well with animals.
In addition to Hibari, Hibird pops up with him. Hibird is a tiny yellow bird who can chirp Hibari’s name, and sing the Namimori school anthem. He is often perched somewhere on or near Hibari.
Sexual Orientation: If not asexual, then bisexual with heavy male leanings. Hibari certainly doesn’t care about sex at all, and the only people he’s interested are those who can give him a good fight. However, all of Hibari’s opponents and relationships have been male. He only has one relationship with a female, Chrome Dokuro, who is his archrival Mukuro’s physical body/avatar. The nature of their relationship is confusing, but Hibari DOES save Chrome from dying, even going so far as to touch her (WITHOUT his tonfa, even.) which is certainly uncharacteristic for Hibari.
Sample Post: The top of Hibari’s tonfa were sticking out of the bag by the closet and he grabbed them first thing, testing the heft and feel of them. They were just as they had been when he had been fighting Genkishi. Either his captors were overconfident, foolish, or… Well. The set up seemed twisted and bizarre enough to amuse someone like Byakuran, but Hibari didn’t even consider for a second that he had been captured. His life was such that being transported to another reality was far more likely, and the voice that had spoken seemed to confirm it.
The back of his neck hurt, though he hadn’t been hit there; his fingers sought out the sore spot and encountered… something. These people had put something in him. His grip tightened on his tonfa as the rage flared up. He reached for his Dying Will flame automatically, ready to bite the first person he saw to death out of sheer fury, but something blocked him.
The device, he thought, and suddenly smirked. It seemed his captors were not quite so overconfident. But still foolish. He flipped a catch on one of his tonfa, revealing a small, curved blade, and dropped the other to the floor. With his free hand he parted the hair around the object as much as he could, then settled the blade underneath the object and pressed.
The first wave of pain dropped Hibari to his knees, which surprised him quite a bit more than the pain itself, but he managed to keep his grip through it despite the blood making his fingers slip. The next wave made his hand spasm and the tonfa clattered to the floor, leaving Hibari braced against the cold tile, panting.
He recovered quickly. Smirking again, almost smiling, he tore a strip off his paper gown to staunch the blood. How intriguing. It seemed as if his younger self wouldn’t be having all the fun after all.
