Can't tell you what a delight it was to walk into the cosy comfy halls of AO3 as a new-oldie at fandom. It's like returning to the Old Internet when things were predatory cauldrons of fury, spite and data-harvesting. When the tentacles weren't at your throat just because you wanted to read something on a screen. When you didn't have to be constantly paying a 'price' (oh, neoliberalism, how you have manifested that metaphor so thoroughly) for a bit of curiosity or entertainment, by surrendering all your privacy. No banner ads! No creepy log-ins through gigantic dominating media corporationissimi!
I don't know much of the story of how AO3 started up but I do say: DAMN WELL DONE, PEOPLE.
Now I commence dreaming of a languid, leisurely day or three in which I might indulgently upload all my dear old lotrips and potter fics. Hah!
